That's still about $2.05 per MB

PagePlus and other have it down to like $0.60/MB or so

That is crazy. What is the point of owning a android phone if you can't enjoy android. Which means you need more than 500mb for $25.

Not everyone wants to use 500 jillion gb a month....indeed most smartphone users only want email....for these, 500mb plus unlimited at&t wifi is plenty

If all they want is email then why not just get a cheap Blackberry that is 5yrs old?

Another words don't pay for features & capabilities your not going to use.

Because they want to pimp their phones. Sure they guy with the 8703E is probably a millionaire and the one with the Droid is living month-to-month, but who would ever guess?

Because these are PRE-PAID customers we are talking about here.....pre-paid phones work on postpaid accounts, but NOT vice versa. At the moment, there are no pre-paid Blackberries, at least none offered by at&t.

I was pre-paid for years....the only reason I finally signed a contract was to get a smartphone. If they had this offer when I was pre-paid, I never would have signed a contract.

Sure they are... Everyone is in business to make money. Page Plus' business model doesn't require them to buy the latest and greatest phones and advertise on every prime time show and sponsor race cars and professional sports franchises and pay naming rights on stadiums and arenas. Not to mention hire customer service reps and sales reps in every city. It's just a whole different game. Do I like to see Page Plus activate customers? Hell yes! But remember the UPS strike? Fed Ex was overwhelmed. I don't mind Verizon and AT&T making money and being greedy *Bleepards* Hell I expect it, but there needs to be a check against their ambition and a punch in the nose for even trying to swallow T-Mobile whole should be the first salvo.

For the same $25, I can get Virgin Beyond Talk with 300 mins and messaging and internet.
Optimus Virgin is a decent basic Android phone.

I don't think any company in its right mind should make its pre-paid offerings as attractive as its post paid. I remember when I worked at Alltel they had those Boomerang plans: 300 peak and 3000 off peak minutes for $34.99 and Post paid was 300 peak and unlimited off peak for $35. Dumbest ish ever. They were trying to cut our throats. We took a big hit if we sold more pre-paid than post paid. Fortunately I worked a kiosk by myself. No way I was going to let more Boomerangs walk out in a month than Contract.
