As far as I can tell, this is a Motorola original design.
Certainly, the MPx200 was rare in that I'm not sure started out as a Motorola phone at all - it was a Chi Mei phone later adopted, tweaked, and branded by Moto.
Sometimes it's hard to tell, though. The V878 and V690 are technically manufactured by Chi Mei.
Chi Mei is not a bad company, just not a household name. A lot of people like the MPx200. In the end, it doesn't make a difference to me, as long as Motorola stands behind it.
