Why?

This question comes up many times. IDEN still needs to have an assortment of devices while it is in operation. There are a percentage of subs that do not want to part with the Direct Connect that Nextel is noted for. Many are due for upgrades and deserve a newer selection to choose from just as any other carrier.

Business must carry on as usual until the time scheduled to shut down comes closer.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw this headline. Sometime in 2013 is when Sprint intends to turn Iden off. Which btw is less than 2yrs away. Time to slow down with the Iden handsets, I would think.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, you know that like IDEN, T-Mobile is going to be going away too. But didn't they just announce some new phones at CTIA? Yes. Sprint is committing to "sunsetting" IDEN in 2013. That doesn't necessarily mean customers are going to wake up one morning and not be able to use their phones. It's probably refering to a gradual shutdown just like what at&t seems to be planning for T-mobile's 3G service.

iDEN via Sprint is shutting down, which should really make things interesting over at Southern Linc, who has made no plans to shut down or change their iDEN only network... Then you have Nextel Holdings That operates iDEN throughout Central and South Americas, as well as Canada (iDEN everywhere but the U.S. (formerly Nextel before Sprint merged then divested it, idiots.) Point being, theres plenty of iDEN left in the world beyond 2 years, and Moto will keep churning out the devices because theres a market for them elsewhere.

Not to mention Southern Linc's brand new roaming deal with Sprint... The more you look at this, the more it seems like Sprint will have to buy them or lose a lot of customers to them in 2 years, lol

While it is true that SPRINT is dismantling IDEN, there are 2 other North American companies operating. Southern Linc in the south and Telus Mobility in Canada. Both are still going strong. This phone is perfect for both of them1 Very Happy

Because it's the best push to talk on the market? Because millions still use it? Is any of this getting through?

Amazing.

Maybe it is getting through - "tschlicht" hasn't posted any responses ;-)
