So here is my issue with this guy. He is talking about the carriers being affordable. But yet he has no idea what any carrier might do in the future. No one saw the sprint plan changes, yet when they happened it was, and still is the best deal in wireless. The one point no one has made is this: Who is not to say that at@t would get smart and maybe adopt a few of tmobiles plans??? That would make the most sense.

I had at&t for 10 years and there servive got worse each year i travel a lot and need a good carrier and everytime i had problems they couldnt solve it. So i changed to US cellular and have not had no problems with them. someone like us or sprint should buy at&t and even tmobile that way we would have good serviceand wont lower prices they will make them higher i though US was high but they even beat at&tso this guy in new york needs to think when came through new york with at&t service wasnt good. now with us and my helper has sprint we have no problems i all over the place for work and real happy now cause i can talk anyplace and my helper said he has no problems So US cellular and Sprint buy these 2 companys out so we can have good servic...

At least wireless customers aren't extremely biased like wireless employees. It's just a job people, a means to pay bills. A job is a job is a job. Loyalty belong to a wife, not a job. CEO's aren't loyal to employees, their loyal to stockholders.

Sprint couldnt buy T-Mobile, how would they possibly be able to buy at&t?
If it was Sprint making the deal to buy T-Mobile would people be making as much of a fuss over it as they are with the current at&t-mobile deal?

the problem is with 70% marketshare, she are considered price setters, that is an intrinsic feature of a monopoly or duopoly.

I'm afraid you're right. The'll want to recover that purchase price and that would be hard with lower prices.
Personally I wish the authorities that investigate this merger would also use this occasion to finally address the high cost of texting relative to the cost of calls. It is totally unjustified considering that texting uses less bandwidth than voice, thus it costs also less to the carriers. Yet they charge more for it. Texting is their cash cow. The problem is getting worse with more and more people preferring texting over calling.

Ummm at&t adopting t-mobile plans would pretty much amount to lowering their prices. Kinda splitting hairs there. They could just add tmobile's plans to their current ones..but everybody would switch so why would they do that? Not to mention they are way more money grubbing than even verizon, so i doubt they are lowering s**t.

Verizon gouging? Just because you can't comprehend why you are being charged what you are being charged monthly doesn't mean that we here at Verizon gouge our customers. We provide 100% customer satisfaction, with the latest and greatest phones on the market. Now I understand not all reps might not provide this kind of customner satisfaction, but I personally do ๐Ÿ˜ .

@VmrT, maybe this is ur first time posting something on here. But for most of us here as of late we try not to bash each other. Espically with myself and azeron in the business as well. But anyways to your point, I sell all of the big three and yes vzw is the most expensive, but i guess since you are one of those guys drinking the vzw kool aid and "they are the greatest thing ever" we will give you a pass this one time for sounding like a jackass

Here's a thought...and I'm not saying everything is this way. But If youve got a standard phone...how much is unlimited data? $30.

AT&T standard phone = $10-15 depending on your text package. (Granted, smartphones are another matter.)

At least Verizon reinvests in their network. At&t finally has been the last few months cuz they were getting blasted by customers for not improving anything since the first iphone launched pretty much.

That's why I left ATT. All these billions, and billions are coming in. 2007 comes and goes, 2008 comes and goes, 2009 comes and goes, HSPA never progress beyond 7.2
And now compared to ATT, tiny T-Mobile is just zipping alobg past ATT with a 42mb/s HSPA+ network, all while ATT is just barely launching HSPA at 14mbps.

What's the point in being with a larger network if if the company doesn't invest back into it?

no there is not a "hugh difference." i dunno if you meant hugh grant or hugh laurie, but whatever. t-mobiles plans are LESS EXPENSIVE than at&t's plans, so yes, you basically implied that at&t might lower their prices with your prior statement.

I am sorry but from a business stand point, a company to spend as much as they have and risk $3 billion if the purchase does not go through is a company wanting to build and not bend as much as Tmobile has. In my opinion I will always see the glass half empty unless proven otherwise. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I hope that is does not go through but I do think that it should be handled with a guy that is more than likely looking to build his name and firm by stopping a multi billion dollar deal going through.

I agree. I would have to say that a $3 billion dollar gamble has to have some SERIOUS payoff to take the risk involved and lowering their prices wouldn't be the #1 priority on the docket! ๐Ÿคจ

With prices all around increasing, more people unemployed, jobs being cut, big business's shutting down operations (i.e., borders, blockbuster to name a few), gas raising up to $5, we are STILL at war, and current companies are finding ways to undercut their employees from ANY type of benefits...I would have to say that limiting our choices in wireless carriers doesn't equate to more affordable plans for me. I'm just sayin'...

Nobody can say with absolute certainty what the future will hold; true. But it is still necessary to try to analyze this transaction and what the potential outcomes affecting the consumer will be. Namely, how likely/probable is it that cell phone services will increase in price as a result of this? Given AT&T charges more than T-Mobile, it seems very likely they would increase.

AT&T will be given a chance to demonstrate how this merger will be good for customers, and will not create, essentially, a duopolist market place. As well, if it does create that sort of market place, mark my words, with in a couple years there will be government price control on cell phone service; much like electricity and gas, and other service based industr...
