The Official Android Market poses a greater risk to users.

So far, only allowing Market apps hasn't been a successful measure in reducing the presence of malware on Android phones since they are so easily accepted into the Market.

Amazon, on the other hand, at least has an approval process for their Market. Maybe AT&T should make Amazon the official and block the official Market.

It's foolish to think 'opening' things up will suddenly cause everyone to conform to some kind of code of moral ethics. I don't know why people are so naive about this. Give someone with ill intent an inch and they will go a million miles......

Wait, were you talking to me? Google has blocked and even pulled harm full and malicious apps The Openness that Google gives is to allow developers to develop apps (that aren't on the android market) , roms, themes, ect. and also to allow consumers to use those if they wish. However, Google has always protected its own android market.

They just recently allowed 21 malware apps into the market that rooted the users' phones and sent out personal information.

It was only after they had infected over 260,000 devices that the apps were removed. The apps in question had been reported at least a month prior.

I'm sure they have some sort of app approval process, but it doesn't seem like they ever catch anything during the process. They only remove apps after the fact.
