Good to see Sprint standing up for what's best for consumers.

Great job, Sprint.

Personally, I think Sprint is just scared, and they have every right to be. Big Red will stay competitive, but sprint has their head so far up their arse it's not even funny. One of two things will happen if "the man" approves the merger:

1. Sprint will be forced to sell to Big Red, and then I'll be out of a job.

2. Sprint will buy up what's left (US Cellular, Metro PCS, Clearwire) and continue to struggle.

A couple of months ago, I would have guessed that would never happen. Now, I think it will most likely happen.

I don't think Sprint has the capital or reputation in mergers to pull that off. Maybe a better idea would be to sell to CenturyLink, who has no mobile presence.

I mean I understand why Sprint is doing what they're doing, but let's be realistic... AT&T is gonna pay out the butt to the government so they approve the merger. While I think it would most likely be bad, it could also have some positive outcomes.... maybe lol

Century Link? You mean the merged entity comprised of what was Embarq (Sprint's land line business) and CenturyTel (which had it's wireless assets forcibly taken away by what was then Alltel)? Talk about a sheep waiting to be devoured. No thanks. Let's just put things right today and not worry about it. DoJ just tell AT&T not just no... If DT wants out. Fine. Find an outside buyer.

See that makes since. They need to spin them off and have a minor stake in the company.

I don't see how that's an issue. Isn't that the main purpose of a business? If what's good for Sprint also happens to be good for consumers, even better.

Sadly, you're probably right about one of those scenarios. I hate to think about how many jobs would be lost after the consolidation of T-Mobile and AT&T.

Sprint is not a pro-consumer crusader by any means. I haven't forgotten the $.15 per SMS catalyst. That's beside the point. Who cares what their motivations are. They're on my side...for now. The enemy of my enemy is my ally today. Tomorrow I step on his larynx.

Of course it would have been quite OK if Sprint took over TMO? What crap.

I no more supported a merge of TMO and Sprint anymore than this.

However, in the wake of protecting consumers, three large carriers are better than two. This would give me cause to support the last resort.

You are a very smart person Versed, and I respect your opinions. However, do not give into your personal passion for your carrier. You are a consumer outside this industry just as myself. Think about the effects this would have on you if this were another industry. We do not want this to mirror a utilities company. What chance would we have if this happens? I can not and will not support this acquistion.

Slammer, read my post on another thread on this topic that I posted. Yes I use AT&T, and no I'm not in love with them or anything else.

I'm more getting tired of this on and on blogs on PS and other similar sites. Enough already, we all know each of ours opinion, and its being repeated over and over and over.

I would like to see more on whats coming and when and reviews.

I respectfully suggest then that you peruse articles with that subject matter and spare yourself the pain of these debates. I mean when you clicked on this article, did you expect to read about the latest and greatest phone releases...form SPRINT???

Exactly and these suckers like CamelTowing and Slammer actually believe Sprint is out for the best interest of the consumer. Such B.S. Sprint wants to make a buck just like every other company out there. They're just mad cause a rival beat them to it.

The deal is going through whether anyone likes it or not. If NBC/Comcrap went though so will this.

I will presume you haven't lived long enough to understand the difference between fighting for the carrier or fighting for the consumer. Or do you understand my logic.

I don't believe ANY carrier is out for the consumer. However, I choose Sprint because out of the 50 years I've been on this planet, I shop for value and what I get for the price. Sprint has met these needs. They are the less of all the evils. That is it. I do give credit where it is due with their accomplishments. I don't listen rhetoric from young individuals that think this is some sort of game and think their carrier is the next hit of nose candy. I've been a consumer for far too long to think this is a pep rally. This is not something to take lightly, yet you keep pres...

That was put very well. Sad to say it was probably over their heads. I got it the first time because you mirrored my thoughts on it. To many people on here are bitching about how they feel about the carrier and how their service is and not thinking about the price paid for the service and where it will go if playing field is dominated by 1 or 2 carriers. I still remember when only the elite few could afford cell phones.

No. Not okay. Just not as catastrophic. The Sprint crusaders jumped on me for stating that Sprint should not be allowed to buy T-Mobile. I am consistent. We need Sprint and we need T-Mobile. They're not much in the face of the two juggernauts but better than nothing.

Stop being such a drama queen. It would be the same $hit. It'll be two giant companies up against one little one. Oh so what, the 3rd little has a bit more subs. Big freaking deal. They could barely hold on to the subs they got now what makes you think they'll be able to keep em?

CDMA iDEN GSM and WiMAX and what next LTE too? Sorry but that would really be "catastrophic". Come on, they couldn't handle Nextel you think they could handle 30 some odd million subs on T-Mo?

It was for the best. Let it go

Again. I am not in favor of T-Mobile being absorbed by either. We need T-Mobile. If it is a done deal then why are you trying so hard to convince us? It's not a done deal. Even if this thing is approved, AT&T will be gutted making it fit. Give me a butcher knife...

I do recall that it never was announced that a deal was made for Sprint to buy Tmo. DT said they had been in talks but a deal was not reached. Sprint never spoke on it as if it was going to happen at all.

One thing I will say is that I did not hear a peep about AT&T acquiring T-Mobile...until it happened and I STILL did not believe it. If someone had dropped a proposed AT&T devouring of T-Mobile in ANY of the forums on Phonescoop I would have laughed too hard to even make a reply. How could the number two carrier SERIOUSLY make a bid for the number four carrier and believe that the deal would be allowed to go through? Yes, the rankings were the same when they acquired ATTWS, but the numbers themselves were not so staggering. When the smoke cleared then...Verizon was left at number two with forty-three million with Strigl trying to determine what they would say when answering the phones now and the Cingular entity at forty-nine million. T...

Sprint + T-Mobile would still only put Sprint at the 3rd largest carrier in the United States. AT&T however, is quite the opposite.

That said, I wouldn't be all for a a fan for a Sprint/T-Mobile merger either.

Does Sprint have ulterior motives? Sure. Wouldn't you, if you were one of AT&T's competitors?
