AT&T should have had this in place from day one, I own an Inspire and very happy with the phone, and it was intentionally crippled. Honestly it didn't bother so much that true HSPA+ wasn't turned on in my area yet, I get great hsdpa service, what did was the whole hsupa and mediocre uplink.

Remarkably they didn't tell any of the retail stores to inform the customers of this at the release. I made sure that the customers knew that it was a 4G capable device, since we don't have the pushed out backhaul in my area just yet, but I agree that AT&T should have at least informed their representatives before it was released.

I knew what I wanted when I bought the Inspire, paid $399.99, in hindsight, I should have went on contract with this line at Costco where its $19.00. But thats neither here or there. I sorta knew about capped hsupa speeds, and especially with their non iphones. Lets hope this is in the past. BTW, the person who helped me in the store was good. Did looked at the Atrix, and both of us agreed we rather have the Inspire.

What wasx it about the Inspire that swayed you over the Atrix?

Screen size, sense vs blur, seemed less lagged and cost. Besides I have no intention of buying any of the adaptors or laptop looking thingies.

You have the Inspire, right? Which has the latest version of Sense, right?

What the heck is the icon in the lower right of this picture?

Ah! Thanks for responding. I am curious about Sense, and it's pluses and minuses.

Right now I am using an LG Ally. But I qualify for an equipment upgrade in November. I like to do my research.

what do you mean? none of the iPhones are even HSUPA capable, all of them are HSPA 7.2mbps whereas the atrix/inspire are HSPA+ 14.4mbps

I work in an at&t call center and I had to learn about the radio issue from phonescoop/phonearena. Granted I feel like I set people's expectations pretty well since our HSPA+ network isn't nationwide yet and we don't even have coverage maps or anything depicting it.

Same here. I understand that people are getting upset, but if the customer isn't even in a 4G area yet, I'm not sure why there's such an outcry against not having the radios on. If you're in a 4G area, then the rep should have used the term "4G-capable". I would expect the same from a Verizon rep selling the Thunderbolt.

One BIG difference between the Inspire & Thunderbolt is the Thunderbolt is actually capable of 4G-ish speeds! As in 15-21mbps. The Inspire gets what, like 5mbps?

I'm sure though by the time ATT get around to launching LTE that it'll be faster than Verizon's LTE because of the HSPA+ backhaul.

when the HSUPA radio is actually turned on, it will be capable of 14.4 mbps which is definitely "4g-ish" speeds.

There's a difference between "capable" and "real-world" speeds.

Another thing too is when I hear HSPA+ I think 21mbps.

ATT has always, always been slow about upgrading their network, that's why I left them last March. I gave them all the way til March 2010. But there remained no difference in their network in March 2010 and March 2008.

T-Mobiles really knows how to do HSPA+. They have a 42mbps network live here in Las Vegas.

You'll be back. You're obsessed with her. You reminiscence on those lonely nights about your Nokia and the way you fooled AT&T for years practically stealing Internet.

To be quite honest, I'd be happy with 3 down and 1 up. I doubt one could tell any differences in real life on a phone, no matter how much faster you get. Tethering excluded.
