Yes. I do have a negative. While Sprint has made an enormous turn back to being the viable network they were noted for, old management soured their reputation by implementing every bad decision possible.

To clarify and remove this albatross around their neck, they need to shift their marketing team from eating Apple Jacks and Fruit Loops for breakfast. It's time they start applying some testosterone into their advertising.

If Stephanie is viewing this, please pass this on to your team.

Im pretty sure they have. You are part of the problem. Every time this conversation comes up, ppl like you bring up mistakes from more than 3 years ago. Yea some overly dramatic ex customers are still going to bring it up, but the reality is vastly different. If we stop humoring them it will slowly fade and consumer will see Sprint as they are.

I agree. Slammer is a fan of Sprint, but seems to harp on days gone by. As far as advertising... The current ads aren't exciting or awe inspiring. They don't have to be. Just remind everyone that they offer the best devices on a large unlimited network and do it with good customer service. The numbers don't lie. It's working.

Again Camel?

You and I are quite in tune of what posters on this forum are not up to current events. I'm not one of them. A pendulum has many positions between one side and the other. Please do not take my constructive criticism as irrelevant. I'm slightly short of being out on a busy corner holding a billboard depicting Sprint's past and present facts.

Again what? I'm not bashing you. I just think you harp on marketing that's doing a good job. Sprint has good commercials and some are even pretty funny. I think their marketing is spot on... it's not like they advertise for broke people to come down to the ghetto carrier... they just offer a great deal and advertise it. Sprint has a reputation for being the "ghetto carrier" but I don't know why because in the last several years they've offered some killer highend devices that make the other carriers jealous.

---"Again what? I'm not bashing you."---

There were two posts that you made to someone in regards to perceiving my view as being somewhat irrelevant. I will again say that I am NOT employed by Sprint. I have nothing to lose or gain by expressing my thoughts in this forum. I cannot speak highly enough of the services I have been experiencing with Sprint . However, I will express my opinion on what weak areas need improvement.

Just so we are clear on this, marketing is the largest common denominator in selling products or services. It can't be relegated to minuscule importance. It can't be accepted as good enough or written off as "Well they have made improvements". I take marketing very seriously. What good are making all these super a...

I've never said what you were saying was "irrelevant". I just think you are missing the point. Sprint's marketing strategy is different that what you want. So what? It is successful. Sprint is intelligently staying away from naming themselves the "best" because every carrier who does this and has done it in the past still has teeth marks in their butts. There is no such thing as the "best" because as we all know wireless service is different for everybody and while a carrier can be the best in Las Vegas, they may be terrible in OKC. So, this leads to what they are doing now. They let every body know what makes them different. This marketing isn't just "good enough" it's working well. I'm sorry that their marketing isn't up to snuff for you b...

---"Sprint isn't looking to make itself attractive to buyers and thbey aren't interested in making themselves look better than they are."---

You Sir, have completely 100% validated my point with the above sentence. Given the current position Sprint is in, leveraging an aggressive , powerful message of what Sprint has to offer, needs to culminate. They can't and won't endure the upcoming challenges with the above attitude. I can certainly agree that a different approach is refreshing, but why don't we take that approach and really add some authority to it. This isn't a game of Tiddly Winks my friend. ATT is looking to devour the 4th largest carrier and VZW has their sights on Sprint if this acquistion goes through. Sprint can't be skippi...

I'm not going to say that you are alone in your concerns. I've spoken to other shareholders that feel the same as you.
I'm pretty sure that's why you are seeing this move from Sprint. Many of the shareholders are demanding immediate action. Several months ago Dan said something to the effect of "I don't sit up at nights wondering what VZW will do once they get the iPhone. I sit up wondering what ATT will do when they lose it"...
Now that's paraphrased because I don't remember the exact quote, but it was in a shareholder meeting. It's statements like that that make me comfortable with Dan in charge of my money. He saw this(or something like this) coming from ATT.

I was talking to another shareholder who asked why I was so calm about the ...

I hear what your saying. Shareholders are the brawn in how a corporation chooses their direction. I welcome Dan's insight and casual persona. I also trust his leadership and delegation practices to help inform shareholders of the incremental levels of what's in the now and what will be in the future.

Myself? I ride with the crowd that purchases products. Not the ones selling them. I feel this is the key to helping build the relationship between the carrier I support, and the consumer's purchasing interests. It also allows me to hear how individuals feel. I'm not after Sprint's revenues or profit sharing. I only care that Sprint survives. As long as Sprint holds my trust, I will continue to share my great experiences with potential susbsc...

I agree. Sprint's current image is better than it has ever been. It's marketing is better than ever. Everything about Sprint is better than it has ever been. Could it be better? Sure, but to constantly be stuck on an image of Sprint from 2001 isn't appropriate even for the biggest of Sprint fans. It's important to remember the past but not be blinded by it.
All that being said, I agree with Slammer 99% of the time. I just don't agree with his call for a revamp of the whole marketing scheme.

Please re-read my post and break down this part of the sentence: "To clarify and remove the albatross around their neck". I think you will find I am on the same side as you. It will also explain my metaphor towards their marketing team.

Sprint's marketing frankly sucks. I have been voicing my opinion to them for a year and a half on this. They need to step up the game in this area of their business.

+1 on the marketing. I want Sprint to do with the Evo, what Verizon did with the Droid. The Evo commercials are to few and far between and they don't really hammer home the Evo name like they should.

Other than that, they can't be beat in terms of their combination of phone, plans and speed.

That's because Sprint doesn't advertise the Evo, HTC does. Sprint is using there advertising dollars telling everyone how cheap they are. It's the same with AT&T, they go defensive with their advertising and Verizon's claim to have better coverage and they let Apple Advertise the iPhone. Sprint has 2 of the best phones in the industry, but instead of talking about them, they talk price. And it is always the same message. They need to get teeth and talk about quality phones. Talking about price just brings cheap customers. I'd be curious to see the dollars in accounts in arears for each of the main companies. That's money each company counts on that they don't get.

This isn't true at all... There are plenty of Sprint EVO commercials every day. The commercials with the Android dude and all the giant letters... are Sprint commercials.
They also have all the funny commercials about "it's ok I have unlimited messages". Those are pretty funny and they are Sprint commercials.

I think it's a fresh change from the norm of carrier commercials honestly. ATT, VZW, and Tmob constantly try to tell every one they are the best with the largest this the most that... It always bites them in the ass too.

Sprint is doing what it's doing with great success. Changing what works amounts to sabotage and that's why they are ignoring Slammer's thoughts on marketing.

Come on Camel,

I'm not trying to sabotage Sprint. Where are you going with that? I've been pretty vocal on this forum for two years now on how Sprint has changed for the better. At my age I don't play games with my thoughts. Their marketing has been a weak link. You can't deny this fact.

While it has gotten better, they still need to step up.

I will not submit an entire breakdown of an advertisement. It's not my expertise and it certainly is not my job. I don't work for Sprint and I don't expect them to just accept Slammer's ideas.

I do however, suggest ways to help out and I do try to point out examples of commercials that people remember so they can get an idea.

Remember, the Crime Detergent commercial? Most everyone I ...

Sadly most Sprint commercials are some bitch texting her boy friend she's breaking up, and similar. And yeah they are funny, to a point. The Dan Hesse ads are good, I happen to give a lot of respect to him. But as previous people have said, they're catch up ads. Not saying they shouldn't have them, but promote the company and its services far more.

As far as how good they are, by me, stuck somewhat in the middle of the NY and Philadelphia markets, there is no WiMAX. TMO and AT&T have their HSPA+ up, VZW is going to light up LTE by the summer. That is a major issue. Though there is no problems with phone and evdo-service.

Maybe bringing it up doesn't seem to serve any cause, but this is what Sprint is dealing with. They need to trump the legacy of "past" reputation with a better marketing card. Reps quoting positives on sites like these, do very little to hit mass population.

One can only hold so much composure.

Androidrules continues to take all the negatives of the past, overlooks all the positives of the present and creates a novel of opinionated propaganda to shower the forum with rhetoric even though factual evidence is placed in front of Him/Her.

And even though I feel this way,
If you advance to one of my other posts following my reprimand, you will see I publicly gave Androidrules a subtle apology.

My position however, does not waver and I do NOT overlook accomplishments. Sprint has done a wonderful job rebuilding their standing. There are so many areas that they have improved on.
