I don't see a point to the inductive charging.

I can plug my charge cable into my phone blindfolded with one tied behind my back.

Those charging mats take up way more space than an inconspicuous USB cord.

I have heard way too many complaints about loss of battery life and increased charge times due to the alternate charging method. This may have changed with recent versions, but it all still just seems such a pointless novelty.

I am all for technology for the sake of technology, but I just don't logically foresee this as a step forward.

Maybe using an inductive charging magnet on the end of a USB cord instead of the standard micro connection would make more sense. That way people could just snap it to their device quickly, b...

Why can't device makers find a way to make their products more efficient? Or add bigger batteries? (as long as they don't come out looking like the thunderbolt) I don't want to mess with a charger at all.

Calculators have been using light energy for years. Put that on a phone!

I think is not that simple, but this is a great steep for all.

sorry man but it seems you dont google that much.if this is not the next step, them you such not human.
I'm going to make a example that you can understand less say you go to a coffee shop or a restaurant and as soon a you get it your phone start charging instead of using your better usb cord you wont need that, it we charge automatic and you wont need your usb changer to changer ur phone that offen like now, like you are complaing about battery life.this is such the beginning of something that will make your life easier, google it it will help your brain work little.
oh and about the ugly charging mat is going to be upgrade where it will better the same size as your back cover is such need time....

Was that supposed to be an insult? No, honestly, I can not understand what the hell you are trying to say to me. Either you don't actually speak English, or you are 12 years old. Regardless, neither of those things would be excuses for your hostility and inability to actually express a thought.

The few words of your comment I was able to interpret as points against my argument:

-Coffee shop tables will be charging mats someday.

-Charging mats will someday be the same size as your phone's back cover, so it will take up as much space as your phone does, while your phone isn't there.

Well, I don't have a problem with my battery dying, I pretty much exclusively charge my Evo at night while I sleep and almost never need to charge it d...

While I'm with you on what he said, what did he say? Oh, I think he was thinking of it this way, if I translate it correctly...According to the Thunderbolt review, the LTE radio will use a lot of battery, so most likely, when 4G LTE is everywhere, battery usage will be more prevalent. But, what if businesses and cars and restaurants all had induction charging available in the future? Batteries could be smaller because we wouldn't need them as much. I could use my phone 24 hours a day for everything, but when I stop at a restaurant to eat, I set it on the table and it starts charging. I'm waiting at the mechanic to get my car fixed, set it on the table and it's charging. Go to the beach, sippin' on dranks, set your phone on the table under th...

This post is exactly why I'm excited for the future. It may seem like a silly thing "Now I don't have to plug in everything... yay?" but it's so much more than that. Induction charging works at a distance too so we could just have it built into the floor of every house! As soon as you walk in your phone starts to charge!

Love the car idea too, or better yet just put it in every main road: Cars will charge as they're driving to work or sitting in a parking space but retain the charge for off road stuff. I love the possibilities of wireless charging and I'm so glad to see it being introduced as a primary feature on a phone. Hopefully everyone follows suit.

The one for HP/Palm is pretty small, nit a mat at all, but just a small round puck-like device.

The HP/Palm inductive charger was a pain though. You had to set it on it just right and it ended up taking just as long as plugging a cord in would have, and if it wasn't seated just so it would disconnect and reconnect constantly.

At home it's generally not a big deal. It is slightly more convenient, in that plugging in the cord and unplugging it does take time and - with some phones - some dexterity. If you can do it with one hand tied behind your back, as you said, I'm impressed; I can't.

Also consider that most people use their cell phone as their main phone, and do lots of other things on it, and want to use it as they walk around the house. Plugging it in when you get home, but then unplugging it to take a call, plugging it back in again... over time it can be a hassle.

And some people just don't like the "clutter" of cords. There's a booming market for charging stands/boxes that hide the chargers and cables, so clearly some people with carefully-decorated ...
