"Alltel" is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlantic tele-networks. The purchased the divested markets from Verizon Wireless that were not purchased by AT&T and Element Wireless. They purchased the rights to the Alltel name, marketing icons and company emblems. Most of the top execs of Alltel were hired on by ATN to run the new Alltel.

Word is that they do really well in their existing markets. Wish I had them as a choice still. Perhaps they will start inching out from their bases and include some additional metro areas. Hope see. We all need the competition!
