Lightsquared to Back Best Buy Connect
I was sure there was no more competition...
What is this Lightsquared thing?
🤣 🤣
Having fewer options is not a good thing for consumers in my book.
I wouldn't consider them a national carrier, it'll end up as most likely another prepaid service, which will not fill the shoes of a company as large as T-Mobile.
Example; We had a company called Cleartalk open up in West Texas, they are offering service here, but they are not competition at a national level. Heck most people who live in my city haven't heard of them. They can't afford the advertising, so only a niche market actively seeks out ridiculously cheap service for only making phone calls.
It is an option for people in West Texas, not for the bulk of people who live...

I do believe, with enough customers disappointed with the way ANY industry is heading, there will be a massive amount of competition stemming from very real alternatives.
Hypothetically, let's say Google makes a move to the Lightsquared network and gives customers plenty of reason to switch.
I can imagine Google Voice taking advantage of VoLTE service and offering plans at extremely low rates with just as many, if not more features and benefits to the average customer than any other carrier provides.
This would immediately effect the way AT&T and Verizon, as well as Sprint handle business in this new age of innovation.

Just read the main article. Best Buy is getting into the game, along with multiple other MVNO's leasing service through the big (3) carriers and through lightsquared.
Google has a chance to do something pretty amazing with this as well, I'm just throwing that out there.
There will also be companies like Skype, Vonayge getting into the mobile game with (possibly) their own devices!!!
There is no end to competition when there is no end to innovation.
This situation is much different. Someone with money, knowledge and experience, can't just waltz in and start a new separate carrier. To do this, spectrum is needed. Unfortunately , there is no more to purchase. The top four own all of it. MVNOs are not considered competition mainly because they are just reselling what the larger carriers already own. Are you following me so far?
Now T-Mobile gets wrapped up in ATT's domain, their spectrum is added to ATT's already huge realestate. This now leaves only three. Now Verizon keeps ...

On top of that, there is a LOT of untapped and unused spectrum available across the board. With the correct approval, just about anything can be used for cellular service.
