Just wanted to say good job T-Mobile. Way to think ahead!

I, now even more than before, hope the government turns down this deal. Not only because my personal opinion is against AT&T, but because if they let it go through they are only going to be perpetuating the kind of policies which is leading to the loss of the middle class and the economic crisis we are facing.

👿 This proposition really pisses me off! I just left at&t for T-mobile for better rate plans and less restrictions (ie no 2G data caps). Now to find out they are in talks to buy them outrages me! I know the terms of my t-mobile contract will be carried out but damn afterwords to be back on a freakin LIMITED at&t plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read the press release from tmobile and they said you would be able to keep ur plans. But I will only believe that when every finally happens.

It has, they allowed Dobson and others to keep their plans, I have an old legacy plan from AT&T and they allow it.

They'll most likely do what all the others have, grand father you in as long as whatever phone you have works. Soon as it's out of date and broke they'll show you the newer plans that are available, which will look nothing like what you had before.

I'm glad Sprint won't have to deal with the nightmare of another merger in a way, because the first was awful, but I don't think the starting of a duopoly in this sense will do anyone any good. I doubt I'll be in cellphones my entire life, so I'd like to not get molested by the carriers when I don't.

Legally yes contracts will be filled until the end of term. Then you will be month to month. But guess what your gonna want a new phone (especially me on android after 2 yrs) and that's when you will loose your old plan. I know damn well at&t is not going to give me 1500 mins, TRUE unlimited text & data for $79! Complete BS. I want this by out protested/petitioned!

With all due respect, you don't know ANYTHING that AT&T might do. Before you start crying about it, wait and see. Once the merger is finalized you'll get a release option if they force you into anything. Till then, what's the point in throwing a fit when you could be wrong? It would certainly be a smart business move to adopt lower prices and re-establish unlimited data. That would pretty much set the market for them.

AT&T isn't known to be the least expensive carrier, neither is Verizon.

They've done this because they can. Being large means more weight to throw around. Some people will pay that cost.

The data capping they did in the face of everyone else talking about capping, throttling, etc. Only after when people were threatening to leave did they start adding it back.

Big Business acts a lot like the Government, it's seldom that they take something away and give it back, without a price.

Actually, we've seen what's occurred after other mergers, so in fact we do know what AT&T's policies are in that regard.

You don't know what you're talking about. I am listening to one of my gimps talk a guy right now that has a legacy Dobson plan - the same plan he has had since 2004. He's resigning his contract for a second time since being with AT&T, and still keeping his old plan.
You should be rejoicing, ant - you'll in all likelihood be able to keep your plan AND not have crappy T-Mo coverage! Best of both worlds...

FYI T-mo's Coverage is rated #2 to Verizon on the WestCoast. T-mo got the AT&T Blue network, that has been around with Cellular One (SF) and LA Cellular. thus having a strong network on the West Coast. Not sure about T-mo on the East Coast. It will be interesting to see what the FCC & DOJ decide to do, such as making AT&T sell one of the networks. They made AT&T sell it with the Cingular / AT&T merger.

I don 't know what they will do, I can tell you I have an old Cingular family legacy plan of 850 mins for $47 after discounts. I've bought new phones, they never once tried to move me. In fact advised me to keep it as long as you can.

When you say you bought new phones, did you buy them flat out or did you sign a new agreement to get the phones at a discoutned rate? Also I don't know if this situation would be similar since it is just an old at&t plan.

I doubt TMO came up with this. More like DT came up with this because they know our government and if the deal fell though didn't want TMO completely left out in the cold.

Hate to break it to you, but this kind of provision is pretty common in big acquisitions....it is not there because T-Mobile insisted on it, but because AT&T did....

Here is what happened at the negotiations:

att: We want to buy T-Mobile USA
DT: What if your government does not approve the deal, then we're completely screwed....
att: Okay, here's what

Screwed up on that, accidentally submitted before I was done....

att: We want to buy T-Mobile USA
DT: What if your government does not approve the deal, then we're completely screwed....
att: Okay, here's what we offer, if it's not approved, we still give you x, y and z.....so for you it's a win/win regardless of what happens...
dt: okay, you convinced us...
