What we need now is 225 million strong AMERICA MOVIL to build a network here....

Now there will be only 3 major carriers and I wouldn't say that a Verizon-Sprint merger is that far-fetched. That would leave 2 if it happens (hope not!). The small regional/city-only carriers like U.S. Cellular, Metro & Cricket will likely be absorbed eventually too. This would leave me wishing that America Movil, the largest carrier in the Americas with 225 million customers would come to the U.S. and build out a network. They have the resources and are massive and would instantly be the largest cell carrier here with nearly 100 million more customers than ATT/TMO combo. Please bring America Movil here Carlos Slim!!

Well I prefer choice and losing one of four major carriers with Sprint still on the ropes concerns me. The government won't stop these mergers, I mean look at Sirius-XM. They allow the only 2 sat radio companies to merge and somehow that isn't a monopoly in satellite radio? Sure they both cried poor and that they had to merge but what would prevent Verizon & AT&T eventually doing the same thing. I don't care if the largest cell company in the world China Mobile comes here and builds out a network but since government likely won't do their job based on past performance, hopefully the free market can bring some new comers here or we all better get used to $200-$300 phone bills (or more!)

Personally I don't think it is possible to have very many phone companies....surveying the markets around the world I see that most countries seem to get by find with only 2-3 major carriers......

And as far as prices go, as the market has become more consolidated, the prices have gone down, not up. Wireless service is far more affordable today than it was in 2000, let alone 1990, and most of the more odious things that that used to be common are a thing of the past, like regional plans and massive domestic 'roaming charges'.

tether,
I have had mobile phone's since like 91. I can tell you what "Choice" got you, massive roaming fee's, $3.00 daily access fee's to use another network. Somethings do better consolidated. Yes, I'm somewhat leery of this merger, but I'm also not doom and gloom.

BTW, last thing I would want is a large mobile carrier owned by Carlos Slim. Now if you are thinking about like Google buying Sprint or even T-Mobile, I'd be on board with that. But it ain't happening.
