This will be the next step to up the ante. Then the duopoly will be complete.

This acquisition of ATT and T-Mobile, should not be allowed or the inevitable will happen.

Verizon doesn't have the pockets deep enough to do that.
Sprint's value is not just it's customer base. It still has more spectrum than Att and Verizon combined.
Not only that, but Sprint will benefit from this because the A LOT of divested spectrum and network holdings which Sprint could easily gobble up.
To me this is again another reason to stick with WiMax. It's another alternative to the "big two" and Sprint has the potential to build it as big as a combined ATT/VZW 700mhz LTE network.
As most peop...

I was just looking around for Sprint's market value, which is about $15.3 billion, but that figure doesn't include all of its spectrum availability that you mentioned. I mean, T-Mobile's market value can't possibly match Sprint's, and it went for $39B. I can imagine Sprint would cost at least $50B for a total buy-out. Hell, their revenues last year were $32B, so it's not like they're a cheap company.

WiMax is a failed technology, it's never going to gain traction. Sprint will choose LTE.

Yeah DSL is a failed technology. All DSL providers will switch to cable soon.

multi-technology environments are the norm.

Don't forget about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray existing in tandem like BetaMax and VHS did.

Who knows, we may even see a national network of propane fuel stations for a multitude of models of propane powered automobiles that springs up with the national (urban and rural) WiMax rollout.

As most people should know, there isn't a big battle for "new" customers anymore. it's a battle for the "returning" customer.
With Sprint's recent proven track record, the best devices available, the best va

It's unfortunate isn't it? I had high hopes for Sprint and Clear myself. WiMAX was a good idea but poorly executed, IMO. ☹️

I had high hopes for WiMax too. The spectrum it's on sucks though.

It's not that WiMax is necessarily a failed technology, but it's difficult to have a successful business with a lone technology in an otherwise unified marketplace.

Problem with Wimax is not technology, I'm sure it could have been developed to similar capabilities but the numbers and money ain't there. And to top it off, its on 2.5ghz, not 700 or 800mhz.

It might make a difference if you have 10 or 15 other companies, some mirroring your size, rolling out that technology across the nation. That way you can have roaming partners.

Sprint/Clear is all alone in the network buildout.

Well, according to their website, they have been conducting trials. So it seems logical that they are transitioning to LTE within the foreseeable future.

Also, its interesting in their claim: "That’s why our download speeds are so much faster than theirs (which average only 5 Mbps to 12 Mbps)." The 5mbps to 12mbps, of course, the claim from VZ about their LTE network.

The only fact in evidence is that Dan Hesse said recently that WiMax and Clear were the future for Sprint. Regardless of any speculation, no matter how sound the logic, Dan has a proven track record of doing what he says he's going to do. He says Wimax and I've got no reason not to believe what he says.

We are? I work for the Sprint and I have not heard of this. In fact CEO Hesse has gone on record stating that any of our future plans will involve clearwire. As much as I may not agree with this, we have spent billions on suring up clearwire we are not about to abandoned that investment.

Man, I'm all for it if they do go LTE, but there's no real strategic reason to go LTE unless they will have other partners that use 2.5 LTE for roaming capabilities. It would only leave them in the same place they are now. Whoopie.
Now on the other hand if switching gives them better efficiency or capacity along with the enhanced speed they are claiming, then that might be a reason to switch.
