1) Low latency on initialization.
2) Low lag between communications.

That's what the old technology offers, so users will expect the same.

Either way they dont have a choice. iDEN will be dead just like AMPS. So they can either adapt to the changes and accept the future or move on to another provider or their choice. It's time to move forward not backwards

iDEN won't be dead, it will just be leased off to the government for large amounts of money to Sprint. This makes us at Sprint happy, we are trying to get rid of it and have been for sometime.

I thought the spectrum currently allocated to iDen will be converted to CDMA...

If the Project Leapfrog rumors are to be believed then it would land mixed with CDMA or LTE I believe.

Network Vision would allow more flexible handling of that spectrum though, so who knows, both maybe?

Since the newer base stations are getting some serious boost to output power the spectrum that is currently used will be used more effciently, and reduce penetration issues, and LTE covering that spectrum with the equipment that is being rolled out will be friggan awesome. Add in 1x Advanced, even if a bit older, is still an awesome technology that will finally afford voice and data, as well as freeing up even more spectrum for EVDO.

More spectrum for EVDO? Do you think in the year 2013 anybody will care about EVDO nearly as much as they do in 2010/2011? I don't think so.

I do. I am going to care about EV-DO because they are going to have to pry my 3G from my fingers. Verizon says 2020 then I am going to be on 3G until then. No way they give me my plan on a 4G phone.

More spectrum period. It takes less spectrum to run 1xAdvanced voice and data. How is having more spectrum free and available bad? That spectrum could be allocated anywhere, 3g, 4g or leased for more capital.

Care about it? They'll still be using it. So, yes, they will care about it.

That is exactly what Sprint said about it. It will be converted to cdma. Sprint Connect will be used across all Sprint frequencies according to the article. To me, this means that Sprint Connect will be used on cdma as well as WiMax. The new ptt is not QChat(or even a revised version of it). I've heard it's not even a Qualcomm product. We'll see soon enough.

I read a headline right here on Phone Scoop not long ago about PTT being tested on LTE. If Sprint is indeed serious about considering LTE, then they should consider this

Check it out http://www.androidtapp.com/tikl-touch-to-talk -ptt/
It's a pretty cool app that seems to work quite well. Wouldn't be surprised if Sprint's new technology is utilizing this

Take it or leave it, huh? A LOT of companies won't leave Sprint because iDen works in the backwoods and it works instantly. Are you SURE you want to lose that many subs due to your arrogance?

Good point. But Sprint is going to lose a lot of customers anyway as soon as they kick them off of Nextel iDEN, because anyone who is still with Nextel is ONLY there for the iDEN PTT performance, which is still awesome and still untouched by any other company or technology.

Almost every single Nextel customer despises what Sprint did to Nextel, and the poor customer service Sprint provides compared to the great CS they experienced with the original Nextel, so as soon as the Nextel iDEN PTT system is not available to them, they'll mostly leave Sprint altogether.

Another thing to remember is that only iDEN is a true "peer-to-peer" radio dispatch system that does not rely at all on the PSTN (public switched telephone network). Nextel Dire...
