Hmm... they need to make sure it has 2 things going for it.
2) Low lag between communications.
That's what the old technology offers, so users will expect the same.

Either way they dont have a choice. iDEN will be dead just like AMPS. So they can either adapt to the changes and accept the future or move on to another provider or their choice. It's time to move forward not backwards
Network Vision would allow more flexible handling of that spectrum though, so who knows, both maybe?
Since the newer base stations are getting some serious boost to output power the spectrum that is currently used will be used more effciently, and reduce penetration issues, and LTE covering that spectrum with the equipment that is being rolled out will be friggan awesome. Add in 1x Advanced, even if a bit older, is still an awesome technology that will finally afford voice and data, as well as freeing up even more spectrum for EVDO.
Care about it? They'll still be using it. So, yes, they will care about it.

It's a pretty cool app that seems to work quite well. Wouldn't be surprised if Sprint's new technology is utilizing this
Almost every single Nextel customer despises what Sprint did to Nextel, and the poor customer service Sprint provides compared to the great CS they experienced with the original Nextel, so as soon as the Nextel iDEN PTT system is not available to them, they'll mostly leave Sprint altogether.
