Verizon Launches LG VX-4500
LG VX-4500 impressions. Any comments on this or verification?
All in all I think it is a good phone, voice recognition is pretty good-better than my Kyocera 3035e. Screen is fairly good but in bright sunlight could be a little tough to read. A lot of ring tones but of course I will try to download some other ones.
This phone as you may know can dial by your saying the digits of a phone number
or by saying a name. It is fairly accurate on the names and if it does not find the right match it will announce a few others (up to 4) that you can approve (say "Yes") for dialing.
I wish there was a DIAL Command so I could simply say "DIAL JOE HOME". However this is not the case. You must press a button or open the lid and then say the word "Contacts". Then you say the name of the contact. You are usually asked if you want to dial the contact. You cannot interrupt the prompts.
I cannot comment on the lack of an Analog channel as I have not taken a long trip yet.
There is no setting to shut off wallpaper scenes in order to save battery power. I did call this in to Verizon however as a request. But perhaps this is not a big deal. Wallpapers they offer are fair. You can download your own I believe as well as pictures.
There are wallpapers for power on, power off, when a call is received and so on. However as mentioned, there is no setting for "NONE".
Cannot comment on battery life as I have not used it enough yet and I also bought the more powerful battery. Comes with a charger cradle.
I stored over 100 phone numbers in it and had no problem at all.
When you say a name of a contact to dial, sometimes it is hard to decipher what the phone speaks back to you. Example, I say "Joe Home". It will say "Did you say Joe Home?". The phones conversion of text to voice (it reads the name of the contact-you do not store the sound of the name in the phone) is very mediocre.
LG as well as Verizon have no clue to answer any significant questions on this phone as it is too new. You would think LG would but they only gave me first line support.
Not sure if you can use the phone while closed. Again my first clamshell.
Question 1: Not sure what the DRIVING Mode does other than shut off the phone ringers and instead you get an announcement of what number is calling you. Perhaps it serves some other purpose.
Question 2: Can you talk on the phone with it closed? Just wondering.
Annoying Bug: I found what I think may be a bug and reported it to Verizon and LG. You can set the
Speakerphone (which works to my satisfaction) for a certain DEFAULT volume. High,
Med, Med Low, Low, etc.. This is a setting in the setup. However when you are using the speakerphone and it is too loud or too
soft and you adjust the volume with the volume keys (on side); after 5 seconds the speakerphone will resort back to its original phone volume setting.
Small Bug(I think): I noticed when entering a name for a phone number that I could get all digits to come up EXCEPT the number 1. For instance I may put down as a text tag Emergency Number 1. No way to enter a "1" that I saw. Could get 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 though. Strange. Not a big deal but a little nit.
I guess we are building our own knowledge base since no one has any answers on this phone yet.
The manual is not a big help. There is a CD that comes with it but I have not tried it yet.
So far I am happy with the phone and do not have a need to return it.
Thanks, Peter
PS: Feel free to post your impressions and verify the so called bugs I found thus far.
