I'd love to see DoCoMo take a bite out of America's wireless community. To have Japanese tech brought stateside? Think of what it'd do for fast-tracking other companies to produce higher quality phones (or at least ones with better megapixel cameras) ^_^

Problem is NTT DoCoMo uses a variation of CDMA. :/

Actually, DoCoMo uses UMTS, otherwise known as Wideband CDMA, or WCDMA, which bears little to no relation to CDMA as Sprint and Verizon use it. W-CDMA is the ultimate 3G evolution of GSM networks, beginning with GSM/GPRS, continue with EDGE, and culminating with W-CDMA. Some European carriers are simply going straight from GSM to W-CDMA and not deploying EDGE, though. AT&T Wireless is currently deploying W-CDMA (UMTS) tests in 4 US markets and will begin evaluation of handsets shortly. Look for full trials in 4 cities before EOY 2004....

As an att wireless employee, I am excited about the merger. I think Cingular would be a better merger though becuase it would position us over Verizon. NTT Docomo would probably still keep it's percentage stake in our projects. Plus after working customer service for Att wireless for 6 years I hope Cingulr offers me a great severence package. 🙂

Being in the wireless business for the past 5 years....DoCoMo honestly would just sell their shares of ATTWS and get out....unless they want to use a GSM/WCDMA phone here in the US. Customer wise I would love to see T-Mobile bid for ATTWS. WHY?? Because T-Mobile is the the larger GSM provider here in the US...also has T-Mobile worldwide. It would make a better business deal because get more customers and become a big player in the wireless market...or even a merger with Cingular becuase it seems to me SBC is slowly rethinking the wireless part of its business...just like the old WorldCom wireless...LOL. 🤣
