What happened to Wi-Max being superior?

Naw, I'm just kidding.

LTE really seems like it is the way the industry is going. It'd be insane to not follow the trend on this one.

But i do expect Diamond to go nuts here, he's been an avid supporter of WiMax forever.

Wimax has more local and global coverage

It has 592 networks up and running world wide

Wimax is Unlimited (Sprint)

Wimax 2 is ready now and is faster then lte

Wimax has the ability to do triple play. Internet, cable, and phone simultaneously.

Wimax is running in its native spectrum 2500mhz

More devices

does not require a sim card

The list goes on and on but Sprint has to fight an uphill battle trying roll out Wimax vs all of its competitors going lte. Lte will become cheaper in the US with more hands in the same basket. The cost to produce lte will go down tremendously. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

There are so many reasons why Sprint is considering Lte. The biggest to me is competition and innovation will happen a lot faster with Sprint, ...

They are probably have trouble with manufactures putting wimax into the equation. Microsoft and Hp said they have no plans for wimax. This could mean Sprint has to pay an additional premium to get them to produce a wimax version thus driving up the cost of new wimax phones. Which doesn't look like a bad idea if verizon is charging 300.00 for the thunderbolt. That's the only reason I can think of that makes logical sense. Wimax 2 is ready and has the support of Samsung and Motorola. Sprint just needs to make a smart long term decision. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Why does Microsoft need to support WiMax? Their a software company, not a hardware company.

Why does HP need to support WiMax? I have an HP laptop, but there is no hardware support for WiMax, that's what usb modems are for.

Really the only support for WiMax that matters are makers of usb modems, and makers of network equipment. Such as Alcatel-Lucent.

Microsofts new Wp7 has some potential as a new os. Im sure Sprint would want them to produce a wimax 4g wp7. Hp makes all the webos phones so if Sprint gets one and Hp doesn't wanna produce a wimax version no 4g webos phones will come to Sprint. If software makers and manufactures are not interested in Wimax and are more interested in lte Sprint could have a hard time making deals and beefing up there line up.

If Microsoft doesn't have drivers or software for W7 then it would matter. So far there is not a single "4G" W7 phone...from any carrier. I've seen it said more than once that MS did not include any kind of support for it(4G). Same thing for HP... if they don't include software to use the feature then that's how software providers have to be involved in the process.

I personally don't know why they wouldn't stick with the WiMax/WiMax2 family given that's what they have already and it works. I do have a theory tho...

This new "network evolution" from Sprint sounds kind of routine upon first inspection but some interesting things are happening along with it.
Sprint is going to sell a giant chunk of spectrum to Lightsquared. Apparently t...

Dude there is so much misinformation in this post. You should take your talents to south beach or become the next white house press secretary. Yes wimax is Unlimited and for now have more devices. Wimax 2 hasn't even been finalized let alone finished. I heard its only suppose to be 3 times faster so that would put it close to Lte not faster. (Don't start quoting me no vitual speeds either. Tmo is pretty fast but have you ever clocked a device at 21 or 42 upload speed yet) 592 networks being "developed" not up and running. I still don't get the "triple play" bit. I guess you mean you can run your home cable with your phone now. Let me guess you can connect up to 5 cable boxes to your wimax2 device. I'm slow so you lost me on that 1. Sorry. I'...

Samsung plans to have commercial roll outs of wimax 2 before the end of 2011

Just view the linked band plan. The BRS-EBS band extends across a large bandwidth -- 194 MHz to be exact. In comparison, the Cellular 850 MHz band has only 50 MHz bandwidth.

Since I actually like Sprint and we all know that he loves Sprint...I have actually agreed with him more times than not. Obviously one cannot judge him based solely on what he is saying in this particular forum. It is the stuff that he has said in other forums and then not been consistent when Sprint had done the same that is downright irritating.

I said lte and wimax are real 4g and both deserve the label of 4g. Hspa+ on the other hand is 3g rebranded as 4g and is not a true 4g solution. I also said verizon lte network is the fastest. This can change once they get more users but as off right now nobody but verizon can consistantly hit 20mbs+ using there lte network. Every carrier has its strengths and weaknesses, but you are correct. When you can't step back every once in a while and question a bad move/direction or policy by the carrier you are on, you become what DiamondPro is.

If Sprint told people like him that walking off a cliff is good for them...He would defend his decision to die all the way down.
It's a questionable move for only one major US carrier to adopt a technology that the others didn't care about. Especially one that is struggling after a few years of bad decisions. Hey at least they understand that and probably will be flipping that switch to turn LTE on.

Dumping iden is a great move too. Any time I have been forced to carry one of those around in my life, I have had to carry...

Everyone is jealous of you because you are always right and perfect? What sounds more delusional, you are always right or everyone has heard the same comments from you? Step back, look at yourself. It is fine to have opinions and favorites, but people will respect you more when back up what you say with fact and when you stand by your convictions.
