Sprint Could Fire Up Nationwide LTE by 2013

I hope I don't screw up the answer here, but I have seen the plans for Network Vision and it is very exicting project. Sprint will be changing out to CDMA 1xAdvanced and changing out all their towers and 'decoupling' the technology from the frequency. There are a few more improvements but onc completed the coverage enhancements will increase at least 70% across the nation and up to 274% in urban areas. This is a really big deal.

I think the reason for not using LTE at 800mHz is because they have so little spectrum there so the capacity isn't as great as 1.9 or 2.5.

So all these improvements, what is the timeline like?

8 or 10 large markets this year (3rd/4th quarter) with complete network completion in 2013. Once Clear/Sprint's issues are resolved the full scope of the plan will be unveiled, like moving to LTE or staying with WiMax etc. What is most interesting is the thought that Sprint could have a better network than Verizon once completed, crazy thoughts but possible. Verizon won't use these upgrades to the network as it would require to much of an overhaul and cost.

I would not easily dismiss capacity. It is very crucial in delivering the goods. Capacity is especially important during peak times of use. If you live out in urban areas, WiMAX may present a problem. However, if a City is heavily blanketed with WiMAX, issues are not as much of a concern as people would like to believe. I have WiMAX in my area, and it has proven to be pretty effective. I do loose a percentage of signal when entering buildings, but it's not like I loose it all together.

As a side note, we also have LTE in our area. The LTE variant has proved to be very good here and side by side, I find little difference in performance. With the exception of building penetration in LTE's favor.

Well they are. Verizon has them brainwashed into thinking their "America's Most Reliable Network". But in reality I do indeed get dropped calls on Vzn. Pwersonally I think Verizon is way, way overhyped.

That's also what you said about AT&T about 8 months ago...

After being with Verizon nearly a full yr I now think ATT is more reliable. But I wouldn't consider going back to ATT.

Motorola is such a !!POS!! that I !!broke up with Motorola like a bad girlfriend!! And rather than paying retail, for an LG Ally ($370) the girl @ the Vzn store suggested I just open a 4th line and get the Ally for the 2yr contract price.

1 line on my acct expires December this yr
My mothers line expires March next yr.
A dummy EMI was assigned to the original Motorola Droid so that I don't have to pay $30/mo for data on a device that I can't use.

But I'm thinking of using the original Motorola Droid line as an upgrade option, it qualifies for upgrade in November. But I'm keeping all my options open.

Yes, but Sprint still has to pay for it's subscribers roaming on other carriers networks. That revenue would be better served staying in Sprint's coffers.
