Sprint Will Fire Up Nationwide LTE by 2013
Today, 3:44 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Speaking to investors, Sprint's president of network operations, Steve Elfman, said that WHEN company decides to switch from WiMax to LTE, it WILL light up the network and have devices as soon as 2012 and have nationwide coverage by 2013. Elfman repeated that Sprint HAS evaluatED its 4G network position and it HAS MADE a decision THIS year about a INDEFINATE network technology switch. Elfman said that Sprint is still in negotiations with Clearwire about the future of their joint WiMax network. Sprint is still planning its Network Vision project, which aims to make massive improvements to its 3G network ove

It would make a lot more sense to put LTE in the 800 MHz band and run VoLTE, no?
It's not like they need more CDMA capacity (in the areas where they already have service).

Well great minds think alike! Thats what I've been aruging about all this time. Their argument and others will be that the higher the frequency the more bandwidth. But I'd rather have lower speeds with more reliable coverage over having ****ty coverage with no signals at my home/office period. Verizon gobbled up that precious 700Mhz spectrum for a reason. They know what they're doing.
Sprint already has sufficent CDMA coverage and in places that it doesn't theres plans with free roaming anyway. So it really does...

I hope I don't screw up the answer here, but I have seen the plans for Network Vision and it is very exicting project. Sprint will be changing out to CDMA 1xAdvanced and changing out all their towers and 'decoupling' the technology from the frequency. There are a few more improvements but onc completed the coverage enhancements will increase at least 70% across the nation and up to 274% in urban areas. This is a really big deal.
I think the reason for not using LTE at 800mHz is because they have so little spectrum there so the capacity isn't as great as 1.9 or 2.5.
...
So all these improvements, what is the timeline like?
...
8 or 10 large markets this year (3rd/4th quarter) with complete network completion in 2013. Once Clear/Sprint's issues are resolved the full scope of the plan will be unveiled, like moving to LTE or staying with WiMax etc. What is most interesting is the thought that Sprint could have a better network than Verizon once completed, crazy thoughts but possible. Verizon won't use these upgrades to the network as it would require to much of an overhaul and cost.
...
upgrades? we don't need upgrades diamond! and we don't need no **** a** manager neither!
...
Upgrades like switching to CDMA 1xAdvanced and decoupling the technology from the spectrum. Everything will be done with software which will allow use of spectrum (800, 1900, 2.5) for voice, evdo, lte/wimax
...
Thats awesome. Sprints got a lot of work to do to make that happen. đ

I would not easily dismiss capacity. It is very crucial in delivering the goods. Capacity is especially important during peak times of use. If you live out in urban areas, WiMAX may present a problem. However, if a City is heavily blanketed with WiMAX, issues are not as much of a concern as people would like to believe. I have WiMAX in my area, and it has proven to be pretty effective. I do loose a percentage of signal when entering buildings, but it's not like I loose it all together.
As a side note, we also have LTE in our area. The LTE variant has proved to be very good here and side by side, I find little difference in performance. With the exception of building penetration in LTE's favor.
But, it really upsets me when people dis...

Thanks! Since I have never worked for a carrier, I try to give a user's experience rather than a sales person's trick of the trade.

Yea there's a ton of those going around on these forums already. Keep up the good work. đ

People who work in the industry are extremely, extremely biased.
...
....and all consumers are idiots.
Be careful how you generalize.

Did I use the word "all" in my post?
...
Ok fine. "Consumers are extremely, extremely ignorant"
Better?

Well they are. Verizon has them brainwashed into thinking their "America's Most Reliable Network". But in reality I do indeed get dropped calls on Vzn. Pwersonally I think Verizon is way, way overhyped.
...
That's also what you said about AT&T about 8 months ago...
...
After being with Verizon nearly a full yr I now think ATT is more reliable. But I wouldn't consider going back to ATT.
...
You're right. I TOLD you not to sign up with them.

Please forgive me for not listening âšī¸
Motorola is such a !!POS!! that I !!broke up with Motorola like a bad girlfriend!! And rather than paying retail, for an LG Ally ($370) the girl @ the Vzn store suggested I just open a 4th line and get the Ally for the 2yr contract price.
1 line on my acct expires December this yr
My mothers line expires March next yr.
A dummy EMI was assigned to the original Motorola Droid so that I don't have to pay $30/mo for data on a device that I can't use.
But I'm thinking of using the original Motorola Droid line as an upgrade option, it qualifies for upgrade in November. But I'm keeping all my options open.

That's how they get you. You'll never escape their clutches at this rate. I've been wanting to leave since '07, but there is always a free Incredible that seduces me. *Sigh* âšī¸

I'm suppose to be off right now, preferrably @ home sleeping! But someone called out, and so I'm covering a night shift.
So I am bored out of my mind, and so what do I do when I am bored out of my mind, I cruise the Lounge forum. And to my surprise, I saw YOU there! I don't ever recall seeing you in the Lounge before.
Most people who go to the Lounge don't post in the news headlines on Phone Scoop. I think that's sad. It's like they come to this site only for the Lounge, and not the news headlines.
...
I am relatively new to the Lounge actually. I can see why the two are exclusive. Whole different crowd.
...
Yep! Deifinetly a different crowd! . . .I don't really spend much time there myself. And when I do, I read more posts than replying.

"Sprint already has sufficent CDMA coverage and in places that it doesn't theres plans with free roaming anyway."
Yes, but Sprint still has to pay for it's subscribers roaming on other carriers networks. That revenue would be better served staying in Sprint's coffers.
...
*Shrug* I'll leave that for you and AJ to debate. I did not know Sprint had much 800mHz spectrum.
...
Now that I agree with! ...Duh Sprint!
