Google has always been (and still is) one of Mozilla's largest supporters, so it is not totally odd for Google to support Motorola using Firefox for the dock.

I think it is most likely due to ARM processor support, which Chrome lacks. This shows up in the early reviews of the Xoom tablet, the browser looks a lot like Chrome but is still based on the Android browser code and therefore displays Android optimized sites instead of desktop versions.

Also,in my experience on my laptop dual booting Windows and Linux,
In Windows Firefox is slightly slower than Chrome on the stable versions, running Minefield (Firefox 4 pre beta nightly builds) and Chrome Cannary ( Chrome pre beta nightly builds) there is no noticible difference in speed but Minefield has been more stable and uses less RAM/Processor.

In Linux
Firefox and Chromium are about equal, and Minefield is noticably faster than both. In Linux the RAM/Processor usage is much lower in Firefox than Chromium, a larger difference than on windows.
