...Sprint doesn't have a network like at&t. Then they could enjoy being in last place in Consumer Reports latest wireless survey.

But the question is why doesn't it? Wimax and 3g now cost the SAME per month to the average consumer with wimax offering MUCH better speeds, which would in turn allow for some sick winmo apps. When it was demoed, Wimax cost an extra $10 a month, so there was a market for a "slower" smartphone.

that being said, I don't really blame sprint for this. More than likely, Microsoft didn't make WindowsPhone7 wimax capable yet. Heck, it took them months to get it to work with CDMA.

Not to mention Sprint will be picking up LTE of some sort in the next 6 months so they want to keep as many phones off of WiMax right now so they dont have to push as many updates out when Lte is launched.

I don't think it took Microsoft or Sprint anytime at all for them to get the phone to work on cdma. They have said that several MS execs had this exact phone since the first W7 phones were released. I think the ATT/Tmob just had exclusivity to W7 phones.
As far as 4G...
It was never intended to have WiMax.
This thing is being released in March...
The Blackberry 4G is getting released this summer...
Somehow I don't think WiMax is exactly dead just yet...

Let's be realistic here. Most smartphone features on any platform perform exceptionally well on 3G networks. I have the EVO Shift and I rarely use 4G unless I'm hooking up the laptop(I've even used the ps3 on it). But I don't need that kind of speed for 99.9% of my daily smartphone ...

Yes. Most phones do work fine on 3G. However, I think it is a mistake for a carrier that has a substantial amount of 4G coverage in comparison, to leave out the 4G connectivity. This was my bone of contention with the Samsung Tab. Everyone was offering a tab, why leave out a key feature that differentiates it from the rest. Same with this Win7 phone.

It doesn't really matter who's fault it is, it should be a prerequisite to include the feature. But, I tend to believe Menno on his insight. Sprint is committed to bringing WiMAX to as many devices as possible. Win7 is a virgin OS that is just now coming to light. I believe their focus is on mass marketing rather than concentrating on sticking in options for one carrier.

When was 4G relevant when the TP2 was at its peak? Windows was dying rapidly before 4G was of major interest. This is a whole different era. The 4G termination is becoming more synonymous with networks. Sprint is in a great position to offer the best selection for these types of networks by offering choice. In my opinion, WiMAX should be in as many of their upper end handsets as possible. This can fall into a certain part of marketing and Sprint has lacked in marketing. Whether a person feels it is minor or not, a major selling point for Sprint should not be omitted.

I am a diehard Sprint subscriber and supporter, but it is important to realize mistakes. The Tab having an omission of WiMAX was a mistake and so is this phone. I have ins...

Somehow I think they were more concerned with a more consistent experience for everyone rather than "omit" the feature.
I'm also a huge Sprint fan, but I am also a realist.
MS: So, what are the plans for WiMax expansion in 2011?
Sprint: *cricket chirp*
MS: So, 3G it is!

It's not that Sprint's 4G isn't an awesome service. I love it. However they have yet to even announce one single expansion for 2011. If you are looking for more than a handful of WiMax devices in 2011 I think you are going to be disappointed.

Your post conveys common sense. But common sense doesn't always sell products.
The consistency should have nothing to do with offering 3G only. A user can choose 3G or move on to 4G radio on demand. In this case, 3G is not compromised having a 4G radio.

Like I said in my last post, 4G is now an engaging term for many consumers. My friend is a regional rep and has heard the complaints. The Tab received much attention and yet sold few due to lack of 4G. MS should be more interested in what consumers are looking at rather than what Clearwire has in It's intentions. This is a catch22 situation. Selling a new OS to consumers is tough. It is going to take marketing.

I can picture Sprint subs or perspective subs interested in a Win7 phone...

MS doesn't care about 4G. It cares if it's users will get a consistent experience across it's entire platform. Do you think MS wants to answer questions from angry customers as to why Sprint customers have 4G(and faster XBox gaming) than the other W7 phones? Anyone using 4G from Sprint would have a distinct advantage over anyone using ATT 3G in the gaming department. Another factor is that Windows phones are geared for business. I just don't see the need for 4G for these devices. Apparently MS and Sprint agree.
Is that something that will change in the future? If Sprint launches a nationwide 4G network, I would definitely think so.

As far as the "presentation"... It's pretty obvious that even though Sprint was first with 4G, they are per...
