And just abolish the FCC altogether.....

The argument they are making that if some form of net neutrality is needed this can be passed by Congress directly rather than handed off to some regulatory agency is completely correct, and it applies to pretty much every regulation that the FCC has ever passed.

The only reason Congress and the White House like creating regulatory agencies to do stuff is to pass the buck and to make sure that the real authors of bad legislation are completely unaccountable.

If a particular regulation is so bloody important Congress can pass the law directly, no more passing the buck to unaccountable bureaucrats.

Totally agree. But hey, this is a starting point. Love how I was bashed for saying the FCC was acting outside their jurisdictions. Now I have the government backing my argument. So stfu whoever you were! 🙂

and the governments ban cellphone use while driving, but it' ok to talk on bluetooth headset?
why is that? so you can keep both hands on the wheels? then shouldnt they ban manual stick-shift car too? since i'm putting the other hand on the stick!

muscle memory is far more safe than engaging in a conversation holding a phone - more can (has) gone wrong with people talking through their phones. Bluetooth headsets alleviate that so it's more like talking to someone in the car. I don't support a full-on ban, but banning holding the device I can side with, especially with texting and driving.

First of all, best typo/freudian slip combo I've seen in a while. 😁

Second - you want the rules for the development of technology left up to legislators? Granted, most Congress critters are more knowledgeable than Ted "A Series of Tubes" Stevens, but not by much. And remember - you're dealing with the lowest common demoninator there. There are a few folks younger than me in the House, but most are far & above my 32 years, and have little grasp of technology on a personal level - they have their assistants set up their Blackberries. Hell, one of my *former* congressmen had his assistant DIAL HIS PHONE FOR HIM, then hand it to him.

There absolutely needs to be a regulatory agency that can parse the particulars of what is a safe level...

The problem with the FCC IS that the appointees are political.
