'4G' is a vague term. All the carriers that claim their networks are '4G'? Psst. They're not 4G.

I see absolutely no difference in areas that have the latest and greatest deployment of At&t's HSDPA technology. The latest phonescoop test of the HTC '4G' Inspire is a good example of this.

Right.

'...criteria the ITU-R set for 4G. For research purposes, the group set 4G targets of 100Mbps downstream with high mobility and 1Gbps for low mobility.'

So, in other words, none of the US carriers even remotely offer '4G'.

Nope. And neither do I. 3G speeds are fine with me. And as they get faster, it's all gravy.

I care about speed, end of sentance! Even though Tmo's HSPA+ is still defined as a 3G technology, it is quite a bit faster than Verizon's LTE.

HSPA+ speeds will not be available everywhere. att is backhauling towers to allow better speeds. I dont care what its called, 4G or whatever, Im sure it will be faster..that is all that counts..right?

If it was really false advertising and not at least partially correct, the ITU would be all over the companies claiming to be able to deliver the speeds.

The ITU sets guidlines and definitions, not laws.

no, but 4G is a hell of alot easier to say then HSPA+. Nor would the average consumer know what the hell HSPA+ is. They just know 4G's are faster the 3G's. So from a marketing stand point its the right thing to do.

lame? what's REALLY lame is all the ridiculous "3g vs 4g" squabbles people have been having all over this forum. HSPA+ is 4G SPEED! is that not all that matters? at&t is the ONLY network deploying LTE AND HSPA+. Verizon has LTE, great. but when you're out of an LTE area you drop down to EVDO....ouch. gotta hurt to fall that far down.
