Speed change

So, throttled speed will feel more like 1x (2G) right? I've had Verizon before and their speed isn't something to brag about as it is. Throttled speed would suck! I thought Verizon was ready for the iPhone but every day a new defense pops up. Are they worried?

At least they have unlimited...for now.

They are keeping unlimited and if you go over 10GB you get pushed to EVDO Rev0.

The unlimited is defiantly worth it but I'd hate to get throttled. But I guess I'd never get to 10GB. This isn't so bad after all.

If what you say is true, that's not bad at all. Rev0 is still good enough to stream 360p youtube videos.

What this basically amounts to, than, is an attack on PDAnet users who are circumventing the tethering systems.

I think that's totally fair.

They're worried about profit, just like every other corporation. The top 5% of data users are only paying for about 5% of the data network, but likely use over 30% of the bandwidth.

Throttling them down to spread the bandwidth around not only makes for a better experience for the mid-range users, but also makes the organization more profitable.

I'm hoping they follow this lead with the data card prices and do the cap-and-throttle like T-mobile does. I think that model is the best pricing scheme in wireless data right now. I would totally use an...

I'm sorry but if they are throttling, even if only the top 5%, and only in limited circumstances, doesn't that pretty much by definition mean that they don't have a TRULY unlimited plan?

Of course, that there is no such thing as truly 'unlimited' because bandwidth is finite and you can't have infinite usage of a finite resource is a point I have made a bazillion times in the past already.

The position Verizon is in is that they are trying to make a promise that they know they can't really keep.

It is as if open a restaurant with 1,000 lbs of hamburger in stock and I start advertising that everyone can get unlimited hamburgers.....how long do you think that will last? And it doesn't matter how much beef you start out with....you ...
