I'm not being a "troll" for pointing out the obvious here but, Sprint has had an offered an UNLIMITED hot spot buy up on capable devices for $29.99 3G EVDO rev a / 4G WiMax in addition to the PDA handsets being UNLIMITED DATA with AT&T capping it off at 2GB for handset use with a $10 per GB overages rate.

Yeah go ahead and reply with "but sprint just started the $10 premium data charge". Save it, Net Neutrality is on trial is facing the chopping block, just look what just happened in Canada with bandwidth caps for freaking wireline services for crying out loud. The premium data charge is Sprints solution to AVOID going to teired or metered data plans unlike AT&T and Verizon.

So people are happy about this announcement why? $45 / 4GB ...

if you use more than 2gb on a regular basis, sure. i understand your concern. but if you do, you're in the VAST minority. plus net neutrality is unconstitutional, and so is unlimited data. unlimited data is NOT what the founding fathers would have wanted. it's all in trenen's new book.

There are A LOT of things not listed in the constitution that are by no means unconstitutional.

Net Neutrality is what make the internet so AMAZING! Taking Net Neutrality away would only result in choking off the interchange of new ideas and communication and selling traffic on the internet to the highest bidder.

As far as using more than 2GB being in the minority ... ahem there are tons of people out there blowing through these caps with video content rich sites ie hulu, YouTube, netflix, and so on and some of these are pay sites in addition to what they are paying per month to their wireless carrier. In addition this is totalling leaving out wimax and LTE which at greater speeds more data will be used.

"with video content rich sites ie hulu, YouTube, netflix, and so on..."

Hmmmm...all those porn sites apparently reside in the "and so on" category.

$45 / 4GB is not a good plan, its a smack in the face and highly insulting to the tech savy consumer that knows what it should cost.

AT&T leadership clearly does not want those customers on their program. Their pricing model is a legitimate business move, so what's wrong with that?

Let them vote with their feet. AT&T doesn't want the unprofitable data hogs. In fact, there's a good chance AT&T brass wants them to leave and go contribute to bankrupting their competitors.

if people want to spend all their time watching hulu, netflix, and youtube on a 4" screen they need to either invest in something called a "television" or find a hobby. these people complaining about 2gb need to either get REAL about what their wireless needs REALLY are, or go find a competitor that better suits their needs. that simple.

I can't argue with your point. As much as I like my phone and I DO like my phone. I will put it down and pick up the remote to watch a 42" screen as opposed to a 4.3" one.

I was merely making a reference that consumer are using more and more data and phones will never be ever really seen again as just to make calls and a few text. Americans got a taste of mobile internet and they want it quick, portable, able to do everything theory home pc can do and they want it unlimited.

Your argument seems to hold some merit until you look at how hard and long they fought to keep the iPhone exclusive. Apple users are the mother of all data hogs.

Besides they are still 3G, 3G is far mare expensive and taxes the resources of the network greater as it is a larger signal to provide subscribers whereas wimax is a tighter faster wavelength that can serve more subscribers with more speed at a lower cost.

AT&T's network absolutely nearly collapsed under the iPhone data traffic especially the thousands of jailbroken units that were tethering without paying at&t for it.

I have an HTC EVO, rooted and dual booted to run Android 2.2 and WinMo 7 its primarly used in Orlando where there is a robust 4G wimax footprint where I regularly hit between 12 to 15 MBPS. I use the hot spot with regularity to support my work functions and I would blow through not only the 2GBs that you referenced but moreoverthe 4GBs that at&t is generously offering for $45 in about 3.5 - 4 days. But you do have a point subscribers will stay where they are comfortable with their service and price. Back in 1997 I was an At&t subscriber and for my needs at that time I was reasonably happy with them.

Did you say '97? Hell were you with AT&T Wireless? You probably had a Sony Ericsson T18d or a Nokia 5190 or something even more ridiculous. No one used data back then. Probably didn't use text messaging either now that I think about it.

Actually, that adds to the validity of my argument. Fighting for exclusivity and capping data BOTH have the same purpose, to bring in lots of mid-range, profitable customers.

If you've ever seen a supply/demand curve, you'll understand what I'm talking about. One policy pulls the curve up from left to right, the other policy pulls the curve down from left to right, leaving a nice big spike in the middle where they want all the subscribers to land. It's good business.

As for cost, I know far more about PAPR figures for HPS...

If it is OBVIOUS then you really do not need to point it out to anyone. We are ALL aware of the plans each carrier offers. One does not just stumble into the Phonescoop site. Seriously. So yeah. You ARE being a troll. No one is HAPPY about this article. We are just sort of here. Even if we were AT&T customers we are under contracts and even if we WERE interested in Sprint service your browbeating us about how foolish we are to...
