AT&T Announces Hotspot Feature for $45
Step back to unlimited?
As far as the tethering goes, this is def. a step in the right direction. Granted yes, there's still a cap but at least it's doubled for the same price as before.
it's rediculous..45 dollars?
kidding me? 🤣
If you currently have the unlimited data plan and upgrade to a diff smart phone you can keep your unlimited data plan, Now if you currently have unlimited and changed it to the 2GB or 200Mb plans you will not be able to get unlimited back.
IDK what all the fuss is about tho, for the average user of ATT service, they never go above 2Gb, Out of the whole time I've been with ATT I've only seen one cst go over the 2Gb limit, and tats due to the cst doing torrent downloads.
for all of those complaining, what the hell did yo...

By the way, we can no longer simply re-add unlimited data plan for smartphones (not even by management). If they were either mistakenly or purposefully removed, we must now submit a case to escalations for re-adding.
So sorry Mr. Soggybottoms, no immediate resolution anymore 🙄
Either iPhone users don't KNOW how to use more than 2gb or choose not to.

uhm NO, not if you failed second grade. so i'm still right.
If Johnny can buy one book for $10, how many books can he buy with $20?
$20 for 2 GB sound like accurate math to me when one GB costs only $10.
What's your take on the arithmetic? Quantities generalize up even if they don't generalize down. If he had said it was $1 for 100 MB, he'd be wrong because the fundamental unit is $10.
But advertising that an additional 10 GB costs $100 would be totally accurate (as far as my understanding of AT&T data rates goes).

I keep wondering if they are just going to fold and bring back the unlimited plan. I've been hearing rumors that they are secretively giving the unlimited plan to customers who are looking to switch to Verizon. I know this is tethering, but I'm wondering where this will go...
It's kind of funny. I think a big part of the reason AT&T can't go back to unlimited 3G is because their unlimited 3G is too good, too powerful. It's too fast, so "3G" users actually CAN use it as a substitution for a home internet connection.
On EVDO, it's still classified as "3G" service, but because it only offers 1/3 of the performance HSPA does, consumers can't abuse it like they can HSPA, even if they wanted t...

Just because YOU don't get good speeds on EVDO doesn't mean I don't or million of others don't. I always get better speeds than my friends who are on AT&T. It's a regional thing, not a guarantee.

Umm ok... your "too good, too powerful, too fast" isn't affected by market or anything...

Don't get personal. I don't (and wouldn't care to) be a power user. If I could get a 1x only Android phone and live off the $15 data pack, I'd be first in line for that deal.
But there are lots of iPhone users out there pushing their devices to the max, and getting 3 -4 Mbps unless they're in really congested network areas.
EVDO will never provide those speeds, even if you're the only handset on t...

Granted, there are more smartphone users on ATT, but this is worth noting. When ATT released their 200MB plan, they said over 60% of their users could switch to this plan. When verizon released their 150MB plan, we were told that only 20% of users would fall into this category (and they mainly had blackberry's)

The thing is though that android users on Verizon (on average) cosume more data than their ATT counterparts.

True, but I'm talking more about consumption by the top 2% of data package abusers, not average values.
Even under the most ideal of circumstances, a data-hog can't squeeze nearly as much out of an EVDO pipe as they can a 7.2 HSPA+ connection, so it's a much lowe...
