If people are signing up for these services just for the hell of it I agree.....
But as for me, a mobile hotspot would be very helpful, because I often need internet but cannot get it, or the wifi connection I can get is too slow to do what I need. The wifi connection at work is only 80kb/second, I often need a faster connection.
The problem is that the place I go where I might need internet, Verizon is the ONLY carrier, and they only have 1x coverage, not 3G. So a Verizon mobile hotspot would be a waste of money for me.
Now, if a carrier had 3G coverage around here....I would probably sign up for it. I moght even sign up for one of those 'Overdrive' things from Sprint...if they had coverage here.
