A mobile hotspot could be very useful in places where one has Verizon coverage but no WiFi or very weak and unreliable WiFi.

Just bcause you personally don't have any use for such a feature doesn't mean that no one has any use for it, and it certainly doesn't mean that the feature itself has no value.
