shockingly few people talk+surf or care. you hear about it because the people who do care are tech junkies / journalists (even then how much do they *really* do), or at&t reps; a group of people far more vocal then the average joe.

much more appealing would be the tethering feature verizon is offering.

PS: I'm not a verizon customer / rep.

Seriously, I never thought it made any sense but for the last two months that I had an iphone 4 I can honestly say that it's an awesome feature that GSM can support this. I've had so many business conversations where I needed to simultaneously check email, open/download attachments, lookup directions, and navigate websites. It also helps when you're on hold to be able to check email, the news, or simply web surf.

So true!
The CDMA fan boys that say its not important is because they don't know any different.
Not to mention data speeds that are considerably slower.

I'll give you that one, that CDMA people don't know any different about simultaneous voice and data. And yet, somehow, it hasn't been an issue for them.

There's a contradiction: Verizon iPhone fanboys.

The hotspot feature on other Verizon phones has worked just fine for some time. If you need something more substantial than a quick connection with your phone, you really shouldn't be using hotspot. The feature isn't built to be used as a constant connection.

And for the record, I've used hotspot AND on-device apps to connect to the Internet, and while a phone call (those rare times when I get one) means I can't use the computer, it's not that big of a deal. I'm not running my home Internet off a cell phone - I can stop what I'm doing for three minutes, or tell them I'll call them back.

The whole point is that you dont "have" to stop what your doing for 3 minutes or tell them you'll call them back with GSM. CDMA is old news and will be gone. The quicker people can realize that the quicker we'll move forward.

The old arguments and jabs are the best. Rolling Eyes

Who cares?

If this were five years ago, this kind of statement would get everyone's panties in a bunch. Since 2007, when the path to LTE was planned out, this kind of statement has been getting dumber and dumber.

It hasn't been a problem in the seven years I've been using Verizon PDA phones and smartphones. Sure, it will be nice when I have that on my LTE phone. Will I really use it all that much? Not likely. So my point here i...

I would expect people of PhoneScoop to be more educated about this. CDMA CAN do simultaneous voice and data if the handset supports it. This is supposed to be available to carriers in the Spring. Now, how long before a carrier decides to implement that is something different. HOWEVER, even if they do implement it, the CURRENT iPhone4 cannot support it without a hardware upgrade. This, however, does not mean that they won't release a revamped version that does support it.

OH, and most people don't talk and surf at the same time. CDMA people don't miss it because we don't need it. I've been with BOTH GSM and CDMA and have never needed to multitask, and this is as a BUSY business owner.
