Not bitter and... what do you consider a quality handset? An iPhone?
Here's a conversation I've had many times with iPhone users:
iPhone user: I love my iPhone but AT&T sucks.
me: why do they suck?
iPhone user: dropped calls, poor signal, yada yada.
me: hmmm, I'm on AT&T (I have a nokia) and I never have dropped calls or poor signal.
iPhone user: well I just hate AT&T.
me: I wonder if it has anything to do with poor hardware that causes you to lose your signal when you put your hand in a certain place and poor software that tells you that you have a great signal?
I just think it sucks for Americans that they've fallen for the rhetoric and subsidized junk of the US carriers. And it's really too bad that the only large GSM carrier refuses to offer the worlds best and most popular mobile phone brand, Nokia.
