Why are updates so slow?
Google released Gingerbread in December and it seems like most Androids are just now getting Froyo. What gives?

no one knows. maybe samsung is working on gingerbread without our knowledge. i dont think it has to do with bugs. the rooted versions have run perfectly as far as I can tell.

I dont think its gingerbread. I just personally think its samsung stringing us along to push the newer phones their coming out with. Or maybe they need to fire and do some re-hiring in their development department

Fragmentation may have something to do with it. Froyo / Gingerbread is designed to work on many different phones all with different parts. It will never work right with all phone models. The IOS is designed only for iphones (and ipad now). Still it is a lot easier to debug it as apposed to android.

again no explanation. i am unsure why so many people are complaining about the lack of updates. samsung has said they would update for the epic and galaxy series. if they dont they would lose 4 million customers. think you idiots.

I'm not talking about downloading someone else's work either.
You have to consider that most manufacturers make their own User Interface. Just because Google pushed out Gingerbread... that doesn't "Smart Life", touchwiz, or whatever their interface is called, work with the new OS.
Also drivers have to be re-written/updated. Look at XP to Vista update as an example of how that can get complicated.
Also "carrier" software has to be verified as working with the new OS... new Drivers... new UI.
Many layers to get working. Not exactly easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Mods, while they do work, generally don't have the same level of reviews and requirements placed on them. They don't have...
