You could not pay me to use any Iden phone

I have had several Iden phones, and now I have a android phone. Unless you need the walkie talkie, and want your text messages to take hours or days to reach the person you text, do not buy any Iden phones. They suck on web, text, and call quality. That little screen is so 1995. Former owner of i880 and i875 phones.

How long before this phone shows up on Boost Mobile claiming to be a android phone. The sad part is people will buy it thinking they are getting a android phone.

Doesn't Boost already have an Android phone?

They do but it runs on Sprints network not Nextel. Most Boost phones are CDMA now rather than the iden.

But some of Sprint's customers still swear by IDEN. Why? Because in some areas, it works where no one elses service does! Also even though other carriers have launched PTT service, Direct Connect is still the best PTT technology out there.

Thank you.

Not every service is right for everyone. Here in PA, we have a HUGE, die-hard iDen customer base, and they're already freaking out about the impending phase-out that isn't scheduled to start until 2013.

Nextel was built around Direct Connect. I believe it was the first all-digital network, and is the only 1G service still around. And it is still unmatched when it comes to direct connect speed.

Does it stink for texting, internet, etc? Of course. If you want to do that, then get a different service. It's like having a dial-up internet connection at home, and then complaining about how long it takes to download a movie.

Y'all need to find something better to do with your energy.

This phone actually usees a new technology to reduce delayed text messaging as IDEN has been suffering in the past.

I think its a nice looking phone and a good price point for the Nextel customers.

That's true: MO-SMS (if I'm not mistaken).

Before I dumped my i880, I sent a text to a co- worker who was out state on vacation. I sent it on a Wednesday, the following Monday she was sitting at her desk and said why did you just send me a text when I am sitting 10 feet away. I said I did not, I text you last Wednesday.

MissChris is correct, there are people for whom iDEN works extremely well and it does exactly what they want.

Specifically directed toward poster "6667779311":
Isn't it totally irrelevant for you to be comparing YOUR needs/wants to that of every other wireless customer in existence? To each their own, and frankly, no iDEN user cares that YOU want a full-feature phone for text, web, etc. You see, iDEN users go about their lives doing their thing, and they don't try to impress their stuff on you, so why can't you just be happy with the service you have now and let everyone else choose whatever service that works well for them? I don't get what you're trying to accomplish by trying to tell me that iDEN is no good, when it has worked superbl...

This is directed to cellphonesaretools. The place where I work insist on using these out of date phones. So I have know choice but to use these out of date phones. The walkie talkie is very hit a and miss and does not work in some buildings. We have 3 sites that are separated 17 and 45 miles that uses nextels. Daily I can not reach them on the walkie and sending text is a waste of time. I brought my own phone so I could reach my guys when I am off duty. It was a waste of money. So I have put my money where my mouth is on this subject. Do you know how much and i880 cost new. Thank you.

My iden phone was my work and personnel phone for 5 years. So I have put my money where my mouth is. I downloaded opera mini 4 to check my mail. I had my text set to auto so it did not take five minutes to download a message. I am not a poster bad mouthing iden without using iden.

Right. So iDEN does not work in your area and you don't like it, that's perfectly legitimate.

However, your original post slammed ALL of iDEN as being bad/useless, which is not true. If you had stated that iDEN did not work for YOU, that would have been fine, but you generalized it to ALL of iDEN, thus your erroneous statements needed rebuttal.

I could make similar statements about AT&T and T-Mobile not working well in my situation, and for several reasons I no longer use either AT&T nor T-Mobile. But I would never try to tell anyone else that ATT or T-Mo is never any good for anyone, because that is a ridiculous statement.

To each their own. You're free to hate iDEN and go with whatever other carrier you prefer, but it's ridiculous...

MO-SMS just means sending text from the phone. Any phone that can send text has MO-SMS. (There were actually some old Sprint phones that could not send - only receive - SMS.)

Correct. Such as the old Sanyo 4700 for Sprint.
