What markets does Alltel serve now?

They were. And AT&T got what Verizon couldn't keep. Making phones for Alltel is the biggest waste of time and money (aside from WiMax). Anyone that buys an Alltel phone is throwing money in the wind.

Actually, the Alltel name and several markets were bought by a company called AWCC (Allied Wireless Comm Corp). I think that Alltel is launching it more for the AWCC portion, than the Verizon/ATT parts.

yes and no, Alltel was bought out by verizon but there are several markets that could not be bought out because only alltel and verizon exsist in those market and the goverment wont allow a monopoly to exsits in those place, so alltel contiues to survive. though ironicly it has zero effect on the service as alltel phones will still work on verizions network (mostly) and verizon on alltel
