Why don't you get any data? This doesn't make sense. Sprint has large Roaming agreements with US Cellular and Verizon. Are you sure your roaming has been enabled?? I travel to very small rural (farm) areas quite often and my Samsung Epic Gets roaming signal and data just fine.
Not to mention the fact that the 10 dollar add on for having a 4g device is STILL LESS THAN Verizon's data plans
