...management is showing Verizon how to turn a profit. Nice! They are slashing employee throats and slashing customer give aways. All about the bottom line just as I remember.

If Alltel knows so much about how to make a profit then how come they failed to actually do so, necessitating the buyout in the first place?

Alltel was always profitable. They just didn't have a nationwide footprint.

???? Nationwide footprint? Did Alltel not have the largest towered based network? Not customer bases or anything to that but they did the most "towered" network of all carriers. Am I incorrect about this?

Very. If Alltel had had a Nationwide footprint Scott Ford would never have sold out. Guy approached Sprint three times about merging. It must have really been rough for him to see Verizon end up with the spoils. Still, the way Verizon has enacted much of the Alltel culture...I think he has the last laugh after all.
