😲 Apple controls the phone..... Thats the point, this is not verizons phones, nor atts phone. It is apples, and they literally make the carrier do certain things to sell it. No insurance through the carrier, Must do this, Must do that. Have fun people. The bottom is simply this, you asked for it so stop bitching about the little things...

Apple has never insured the iPhone. Verizon originally offered no insurance on the iPad.

I'll preface this by stating I am a VZW Indirect Location.

"Verizon's" insurance is actually provided through a company called Asurion (http://www.phoneclaim.com). Asurion is the provider for most of the major carriers including AT&T. When you sign a new contract, the premium is added onto your monthly bill. This works with every phone except the iPhone. If you want to insure your iPhone, Asurion has a similar program (http://www.mymobileprotect.com/) that will cover you. The difference is that the premium and deductibles are higher for the iPhone; what else would you expect?

This is an important point actually, all the rotten iPhone policies people complain about with at&t are there at the insistence of Apple, and now Apple is going to start imposing all those crappy policies on Verizon.

Apple doesn't play well with others, as far as Steve Jobs is concerned, Apple doesn't have 'partners', it has servants....Apple's relationship with at&t can be summarized as 'if you want iPhone profits then bend over and take it like a man'....and no doubt this is now their relationship with Verizon as well

I'm surprised that a company as controlling as Verizon would agree to be Apple's bitch

This is all hearsay, but my Asurion rep stated that Verizon would likely insure the iPhone when they get it. Supposedly, Asurion decides which Verizon phones to insure. Conversely, AT&T decides which of its phones are insured. Since Asurion insures AT&T iPhones through MobileProtect, they are already used to insuring them and shouldn't have a problem doing it on Verizon. I just wonder what the premium and/or deductible will be.

Currently through the MobileProtect service the monthly deductible is $11.99 and, depending on make and model, the deductible can range from $99 to $199.

Things like what? No carrier bloat without having to goto extreme measures to remove it? Fine, if you don't care for the iPhone, I can understand that. But its the closest thing you're going to get to an unbranded phone with VZW.
