Verizon charges $50 for 5gb, so it is $10 cheaper, but remember, virgin will only run on the native sprint network, so there is a coverage issue.
I haven't used a virgin card (heh), so I don't know what speeds are like, but I do know that customers with a virgin mobile phone do have coverage issues where sprint customers don't around here.
Another thing to note is that for $50/mo you can get a USB stick with 5gb on verizon that allows you to use 3g/4g data. If you're in the city, there are the clear modems.

virgin mobiles 5gb is alot cheaper than verizons pre paid 5gb a month plan you save 40 dollars a month with virgin mobile i get about 1.5mb down with virgin mobile where im at.

Plus, Virgin Mobile's customer service is at best horrible, and at worst non-existent. And their website is atrocious.

There's no need for customer service with this product. I use it (at least until Metro offers something) and a trained chimp with a couple of bananas could handle it.
Plug it in, put in your credit card, pick a pin and you're done. As long as the device doesn't fail you'll never need to call in. God help you if you do. I hope you like talking to India.

That's just it. I've had problems with Virgin's website (which is HORRENDOUS) making payments. Virgin's representatives are also scripted rep-bots. It sucks. Both my parents use Virgin. I, unfortunately, am their 'admin'.

You've done what the large companies want you to do. You've compared the two advertised prices.
$40 at Virgin is $40. $50 at Verizon is more like $55 to $60 depending on how much the tax man wants to take.

Tax varies by state and location. I know here, you need to pay sales tax on re-upping your prepaid accounts, which is still less than what you need to pay for a post paid plan, but there is no way to tell what the cost will be for a customer. Best to stay at advertised prices.
