"Sprint said that it will also start to use its 800MHz spectrum to support its CDMA network moving forward."

Post 800 MHz re banding, Sprint Nextel will have up to 14 MHz bandwidth of SMR 800 MHz spectrum nationwide. (Where Nextel overlaps w/ another iDEN provider, such as SouthernLINC, Sprint will retain less than 14 MHz.) That is sufficient bandwidth for up to five CDMA carrier channels. Also, SMR 800 MHz, in its propagation characteristics, is practically identical to Cellular 850 MHz, which experiences approximately 7 dB less path loss than does PCS 1900 MHz. So, this transition has the potential to improve the breadth & density of Sprint's CDMA coverage footprint.

This is great news. Hopefully Sprint will get off the mat and compete.

SO having OVERALL the 2nd largest footprint, 2nd in dropped calls, and prob. the best data network all while having the 2 top ranked smart phones and cheapest data plans w/ no data cap isnt "competing"... hmm.

Exactly.
Dan Hesse sure has turned Sprint around. Why do you think every other company is poising themselves to compete directly with Sprint? Because they all know that Sprint is the next top dog.
I mean, come on! Sprint has had 4G for over a year now and you still think WE are behind the game! hahaha

ummmm.... what? A company that posted over $900M net loss last quarter is the next top dog? I also disagree on the point of "every other carrier is poising themselves to compete directly with Sprint". I see AT&T and VZW "poising" to directly compete with each other as always while Sprint and T-mobile make slight gains in marketshare in the foreseeable future.
Listen, I root for Sprint, I really do, but it's important to remain realistic. They have a long way to go, and it will take time. They're not knocking on the doors of VZW or AT&T quite yet.
I think they are on the right track, though. A little while longer losing money and trimming down and they'll be where they need to be to operate in the black. Nixing iDEN is a solid step in the...

Are u serious Wimax is the World standard right now there are over 65 wimax networks up and running across the world. Compared to how many lte networks? Speed wise Wimax is faster than Lte and Spectrum wise Sprint is the top dog with enough spectrum to cover the entire US. Sprint has the Best overall value in the US they just need to get people to see this verizon and att just have more market share that's about it. Do some research and you will see wimax is the standard not lte. 😎

I disagree. AT&T and Verizon are like Democrats and Republicans...they each love the status quo because they share the majority of the wealth. Sprint and T-Mobile are needed wildcards and yes I said Sprint needs to get up off the mat and compete. Obviously, I do not think they have been doing a very good job of it. You disagree? Fine. That is your right. They need to do MORE and yanking the IDEN albatross from about its neck is a start. Hopefully Hesse does not agree with you and understands that the boulder is still going uphill with more energy needed to reach the peak and get it rolling DOWNHILL. I am always pleased to see Sprint practice become more innovative.
