WebOS on the Palm Pre worked fantastic for me, and even better has less time on the market than Android. It's young but built very well.

Their hardware was dismal, as likely this first batch of phones under HP probably will be too. But HP is a hardware company, and will likely turn that around quickly.

The only true improvement needed will be to get more developers on WebOS and in their version of the app store.

Android, being so widely spread out, is going to do well no matter what. WebOS being on multiple carriers already may help as well.

Either way I hope they stick around for a while. Competition never hurts.

Ok, so I was excited until I saw that it's months away from implementing.

Agreed. People just think webOS is better all because it's all pretty and glossy. You know, like iOS. Why do you think the iSheep praise webOS too. Doesn't take a rocket scientist.

I work at Sprint. I've seen the 1.5 Android software on the Motorola i1 to the present 2.2 software on the Evo and the Galaxy Tab. I have had Window Mobile phones(which is a parallel shift to Android). I can honestly say the Android OS is unrefined when it comes to Web OS. Cosmetic looks have nothing to do with it. Moving around the Web OS is so fluid and intuitive when compaired to Android. I will wait til CES in Jan to see what HP/Palm will do.

Yep, people just love unpolished crappy OS's that are laggy.

wouldn't iSheep not praise WebOS as it was a direct threat to iOS?

I think there is room for both on the market. WebOS has a heckuva long ways to go.

I know a lot of people still think that WebOS is just an extension of PalmOS, but they really are completely different, and for their first shot at a next generation OS, they did incredibly well.

However it puts them behind in the developer aspect. Funny though that Rovio brought Angry Birds to WebOS before Android though... gives credit to the lack of fragmentation that WebOS has. 3 generations of hardware in (Pre, Pre Plus, Pre 2) and almost all of the handsets can run every program in the App Catalog (sucks for the Pixi, but that phone wasn't targeted at heavier web users, but people who were in the centro market and are heavier texters), AND they're ...

crazy thing is, WebOS is way better than Android by a longshot, it is just poorly implemented on crappy phones.

A few small things I didn't like about it can be fixed with little effort I think. I wouldn't doubt that in this big release that they may all be fixed as is.

I just hope they make a damn bar phone that ISN'T like the Pixi, I want a big screen dammit!

Palm: "We're better than you are! We have better stuff."

Google: "You don't get it. That doesn't matter!"

That pretty much sums it up.

Palm: "Let's pour all of our resources into engineering the best possible Mobile OS there is and a crazy-good SDK, and the product will sell itself."

Google: "Let's pay Verizon hundreds of millions of dollars to convince everyone that Android isn't half-baked"

The rest is history.

I may not be a fan of Apple but iOS has made everyone make phones better. You can see it in action since they launched it in '07.

I would dare say that Android wouldn't exist if they didn't see the wild popularity with the iPhone.
