I have the phone and as long as you use a class 4 or higher microSD card, you are good to go. It is very simply to swap out, took me 10 minutes to go from 8gb to 16 on the phone including the time to resync all my stuff.

If you read carefully, it does say that AT&T is telling consumers to wait for certified cards for Windows 7 phones. They say that the consumer SHOULD wait. So while your card is working in the phone, there are some risks involved and you may come across issues. Use that card at your own risk I guess..I will wait. ๐Ÿคจ

This is weird! I have *NEVER* heard of an OS requiring "certain" microsd cards.

Maybe it's like marketing gimmick. I imagine it could be like using non-name-brand-genuine inkjet cartridges in your inkjet printer. I just bypass it all and use a continuous ink system with tanks and tubes.

Coincidentally, we appear to have fried a card after moving it in and out of our own Focus today to the point that no PC, phone, or camera can read it anymore, so this is definitely a real problem that needs a real solution. Source: Engadget.com

What type of card was it? the instructions clearly state to use compatible cards only, and cards that are compatible are already out, they are class 4 or class 10 cards only. So a 8gb class 2 card will have issues if used, might even fry. Because of this issue that most users do not know, they want people to wait until they have card that clearly state it works on the focus, instead of having to look at card specific specs. I found the card specs before i bought the phone and bought a card that had those specs, so no issues here at all. ๐Ÿ™‚

I believe any SDHC card with rates of around 6 Mbps or higher will work just fine with wm7 and not cause issues. As long as it can do those rates at a stable rate.

again, it may be working in the phone just fine but are you able to take the card out and put it in a different device..are you able to even format it? supposely, the focus will be wiped if sd card is removed and the card would not work in any other working device

Right, when you enter the card into the phone, it is not active until you format both the phone and the card. Once you do that the phone takes the card as built in internal memory, not an added sd card. So if you remove the card on the phone, phone will need full restore to get back up again. The system does not use the card as expandable memory, but increase the "internal" memory. Removing the card would require reformatting of the card before it can be used in any other device, and your phone will need to be sync again to restore. that is the "flaw" on the card option on the phone. I don't see it as "flaw" as its not designed for use like taking pictures, taking out the card and putting the pics online via PC. it is not made to work that ...

ummmm...it is a "flaw".. ๐Ÿคฃ with a microsoft certified sd card it will be swapable without all this nonsense...the process is weird and its even more wierd that your trying to justify that reformatting..backing up...reformating....reformating card before it can be used in different device is ok... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Im not saying it is ok, what i am saying is the micro sd slot is not for use the way it is on other phones, it is not made to be swappable, it is an option on the focus only, no other wm7 phone has a card slot at all, to expand the "internal" memory, not add a memory card. It would be nice for it to work like other phones, have phone memory separate from memory card, but that is not the case here. The card slot here is just for increase the internal memory, not available on other phones at all. So basically, you can increase the internal memory on this phone, not add a memory card. How does that sound? if that is easier to swallow, i will go with that. It does not support adding memory card, but you can increase the internal memory.

No, that's incorrect. No one is saying that.

It's not that it's fried, it's that when you put a micro sd card in one of the new windows phones, it syncs to the phone. If you take it out of the phone, it will erase any info you stored to it. That's why us AT&T reps are supposed to encourage people to buy the largest sd card the phone will support so they never have to switch it out for a larger one and lose their info.
