Sprint and Clearwire Fight Over Smartphone Finances
It should work both ways...
Fair is fair.
Buisness 101. If you sell a product for less then you buy it for, you're going out of buisness pretty quickly.
You honestly think that Sprint getting every subscriber for between $50 and $100 between voice and data are losing money? Sure, if you believe that, I got a bridge I wanna sell ya....
They most certainly don't lose money on their rate plans. Look at MetroPCS as an example. It costs them around $17 per customer per month to operate. Anything above that is profit. I'm sure Sprint is much more top-heavy than that, but it gives you an idea of what it costs to provide service.

... if Sprint does not want to pay Clearwire a service fee for the 4G phones it sells, then Sprint should not charge people the 4G access fee if they do not access the 4G network with their phones.
Fair is fair.
Sprint does NOT charge for "4G"...
The $10 charge is for Premium Data charges.
Those devices are designed to use extra large amounts of data.... Even on a 3G network. You are not paying for 4G you are paying because those devices use 10x the amount of data that normal devices use...

please explain how an evo can use more data on 3G than say a blackberry on 3G....
flawless victory.
Also the difference between a 15kb MMS and 30kb MMS doesn't equal 10x more data usage 🤣

I don't have home internet, or cable tv, so I use my Motorola Droid more than some people.

Except that your input method is wrong so the solution you came up with is wrong. :/
The Evo and Epic run MANY more web intensive apps and also have Video calling. When you watch youtube and similar videos on your blackberry they are compressed mobile versions(thats why it says some are not available for the device) however The Evo and Epic have full web browsers and streaming video capabilities.
Good answer!
Youtube and mms both use more data on the Evo as well
tmorep03 said:
still its totally bs for them to be charging you 10dollars extra for something you dont have access to....
you have access to everything except the speed...
tmorep03 said:
you cant say sprint has a 4g network..either..yes they are using wimax which can reach the speeds required to be 4g but they dont have that capabillity.
They already meet the capability... with speeds AND latency. Please do more research
tmorep03 said:
let me think here last article i read from phonescoop that tested the wimax network and hspa + said that hspa+ outperformed wimax.
No it said the speeds matched... Unfortunately they DID not test latency.

Again... 4G is defined by LATENCY + speed... Not just Speed alone. ATT has the exact same network with a LARGER footprint... They don't call it 4G and they were the pioneers of the GSM Evolution to HSPA... ATT says that the technology they(and Tmobile) use IS NOT 4G. ATT says that LTE and Wimax are 4G. I read the article... it says SOMETIMES outperformed. But again... Latency is the BIG point. I dare you to play Call of Duty Black Ops on your Tmobile "4G" device... The EVO and EPIC can handle a lan party...
the true definition of 4G speed is 100Mb in a urban setting and 1000Mb in a rural setting. according to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).

The Blackberry is designed to use optimized level of datas so bad example nw say an Samsung Hero or Moment would be a better one to compare
Neither of those phones have Video calling capabilities... Nor are they hotspot phones.
Right now, the only devices that get charged for Premium Data are the Evo 4G and the Epic 4G. Notice the common 4G in their titles (grin).
Similar Android phones like the LG Optimus S, that could consume the equivalent amount of 3G data, are not charged the Premium Data charge.
If what you state is true, then all smartphones should be charged $10 more for premium data. Right now, only the 4G phones are.
FWIW I'm ok with Sprint charging $10/month for 4G data. I'm also ok with them charging the $10 even if I do not access the 4G network. But if that is really true, Sprint should put the money into building up the 4G network with Clearwire.

A feature, by the way, that basically nobody uses, since it requires two phones running the Qik application. No desktop interoperability, no cross-service integration, nothing.
And, as several other people noted, something that other carriers (T-Mobile) do not charge for.
I'm obviously being ripped off, especially since the Sprint representative I talked to when I ordered the Evo specifically stated that I was paying $10 for 4G service.

good point...its a big rip off i think...pay 240 extra over a 2 yr contract for an app that u can barely use...idk why he cant admit its for the 4g service
I try not to "admit" that lies are truth.

Wow... US Cellular offers free incoming calls... It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with what Sprint or any other company is doing.
And let's be real here... I've explained it in great d...

And maybe you sit on a VZW c*&k?
Let's be real... You guys are the ones throwing insults around and lying. I'm getting attacked for telling the truth.
"Snap photos with the primary 3.2MP camera or fire up the front-facing VGA for video conferencing. On the premium 3.5" HVGA display, videos are more vivid and games more gorgeous."
No $10 charge required.
famoussasjohn said:
because people would rather know the truth behind the charge and not lies maybe? I work for Sprint and get this question all the time what the charge is for. The excuses are complete crap from what Sprint has provided us, and just causes more of a frustration with the customer.
Sounds like you need a new job 🤣
famoussasjohn said:
Also, he said since they both offer the hotspot crap, they wouldn't charge a $10 on top of the $30 fee for the capability for the hotspot. it is specifically for 4G, but they lie about it. it's kind of blatant..
Never said that... please quote me where I said that.
Again... "willful retardation"

when someone was said the blackberry uses the same data, then you came back with this. I guess I am just a retard. 🙄

Um call RIM and they will tell you it is NOT the same. Thank you.

I guess you are just going to ignore the Samsung Transform, that has dual cameras, one for video calling.

No $10 charge required.
VGA Cameras = very little data
The video calling the transform does is literally less than HALF the data required using similar features on the EVO and EPIC.
It can't handle sending and receiving HD videos or high res photos. You can't use it to play online games on your PS3.
Guess what...
the EVO and EPIC can...
Your logic = fail. keep trying.
you are acting like sending a HD photo, which could more than likely be 4MB-8MB. That is not high data transfer by any means. Video may be higher data transfer, but not enough to justify a fee because of that.
also the "data intrusive apps" is a complete joke.
I have never heard of the evo or epic being connected to a Ps3, if this is through the mini HDMI, then no data is going to be used as there is a solid connection that is NOT internet data. If ...

Ya, because VGA is a huge different between 1.3MP. It would be barely be a difference. the iPhone 4, which uses a front VGA camera uses around 100MB for a 10 minute video call. I tested this when I jailbroke my phone and installed My3G to make video calls without needing to be on Wifi.

You can compare 2 people who own the same exact device, one watches a lot of YouTube, watches videos using other apps, browses the web as their only source for an internet connection, and compare it to someone else that all they do is email and listen to Slacker internet radio.
Users determine usage, not a device. I don't have home internet or cable tv, so I use my Motorola Droid more than most people. It's all up to the user, not the device.
