I just called Verizon to ask them bout this expecting the same response oh we don't know bout this but she looked it up and all I had to do was extend my contract 1 year and she added the feature for the 20 dollar discount
...
This stuff about having to extend a contract for 1yr is a bunch of BS!!! Contracts are suppose to be for subsidising a device not a rate plan!
...
ya but u know what like I told the rep I use to work for 2 cell phone companies and most of the people I talk to r on Verizon I have no problem extending my contract just to get a 20 dollar discount every month I already drop 115 a month to them so I don't mind I been with them for almost 2 years and I love Verizon
...
But it's that much longer that you won't be able to upgrade.
...
actually mk she said it wud not change the date when I'm able to upgrade
...
Oh! Better make sure she notates your acct!
...
oh ya I did make sure

Contract extension doesn't necessarily effect the upgrade eligibility.
...
Some customers will extend their contract a year merely for a month's free service. It takes all kinds. Also extending one's contract to take advantage of a promotion such as this does not affect the upgrade eligibility date. There is no need to notate the account.
...
I prefer notation of the acct because I don't like being told !2! different stories, that's why. I like a consistent experience with customer service.

You can extend your contract without extending your new equipment discount.
People do it all the time for an extra 200 bonus minutes a month (that they never use)

So I called VZW and this plan is a go for even new customers. I don't have verizon, told the rep, he said if I wanted to get this today. I didn't but it's for sure a go for new cust as well as existing customers with 1 yr renewal.
...
Absolutly! Personally I don't think new & existing customers should be treated any differently. All rate plans should be available to all customers.
...
I just called Verizon (Dublin, Ohio Call Center) and the rep I spoke to said there is no such plan.
...
I found a number of 877-873-3278 to call from another forum. I called it and not eve 3 minutes after I called the number, the rep said that my plan had been changed to the $69.99 plan. He confirmed that the plan included all the following:
Introducing the new Verizon Wireless Talk and Text Plus Data Promotion.
Starting at $69.99 Monthly Access*, you'll get:
Unlimited text - including picture and video messaging!
Unlimited data on the nation's largest and most reliable 3G network, allowing you
