Unsafe/bad idea to me.

All that comes to mind (maybe its the hacker/pessimist in me) are cons. The pros just aren't worth the risks.

Any differing view wish to speak up?

I can certainly understand your concern, as it would be very easy for someone to steal your phone and start making purchases. However, I am certain that the types of purchases that could be made would be quite limited. There's no reason to have such a functionality outside of simple purchases from your local grocery store. If someone were to steal your phone, a simple suspension of the line would solve the issue, just like if someone stole your credit card. I'll start worrying when they let you buy a car like this ;)

People are so wound up in being paranoid that they never stop to think that if your phone is lost/stolen you do the *same exact* thing if a credit card is lost or stolen. . .suspend service.

True. Even then, I would think that whatever account you link with it (Visa, etc.) would cover fraudulent purchases. It's probably just like paywave too where any purchase over $25 must have ID or a signature with it anyway.

It's perfectly normal to have a skeptical view of anything new. Ultimately it's up to the user to make a decision if he wishes to trust any new piece of technology.
