Clear will switch to LTE

Doesn't take a rocket scientist. But the question is, what will become of Sprint? T-Mo was right, WiMAX was a niche play

I believe that Clear will switch to LTE in the near future. But what I do n't understand is that Clear continue to invest in the build out of WiMAX network. Cleasely a case of waste of money.

they continue to invest because they hot 330MBPS with Wimax 2 and wimax is all over the world

Those speeds WILL NOT be seen outside of a lab, period. (not to mention the fact that nothing currently built can handle them)

And LTE will be all over the world as well.

You're right, but real world speeds should be around 200 Mbps (down)on WiMAX2 and can upgrade to TD-LTE, which has been proven to be up to 5 times faster than LTE.

I work with wimax, i know the technology, i work with it everyday. There is no way possible that the speeds will get over 30 mbps. Of course i am saying megaBYTES, 90 megaBITS are much less like they claim. This is clearly just the theorectical throughput just to their tower. They don't have the backhauls, nor the infrastructure to make anything remotely that close.

Clearwire fail.

WiMAX2, not WiMAX. Speeds are running 330 down.

Okay do you work for Clear or work with there towers? ๐Ÿคจ The biggest problem I see with you statement is you reference wimax and not wimax 2 which has a higher through put and is more advanced then current wimax tech.

Side note: Sprint and Clear have lots of Spectrum that can be used for back-haul as well as fibers in the ground. On 4g everyday I have hit 9mbs. If u work for them based of the info you stated that 1/3 of the max the tower is putting out.

So when Wimax 2 comes out based on 330 mbs that would produce 110mbs real world speed that's faster then these lte trail test and real world speeds! Simply amazing! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

So what you're telling me is that wimax 2 is 10 times as fast as wimax? Wimax 2 has a couple problems, #1, no real world testing aside from what clear wire promotes, #2, when companies like verizon, and at&t has fiber based home entertainment, work with fiber, and still dont have the infrastructure to even push out 75 mbps, there has to be some issues with those numbers. Ill let that sink in for a bit.

Clear is losing funding from many companies, a reason why is that the technology is fail. It will never be viable, you MIGHT see 20mbps on a mobile devices, but thats moot, ping times are atrocious, LOS issues are abound. I dont see it being useful. ever.

Sprint does have fibers in the ground they used to be a landline service! Clearwire also has a ton of fibers as well. To top it off Sprint has the most spectrum out of all the US carriers! Those test on Wimax 2 are more intensive and closer to real world test this lte 90mbs trail was done by clear in a moving vehicle.

To add even more backbone to Clearwire and Sprint existing fibers in the ground they just partnered with Fiberlight to add more then 900 miles of high capacity optical transport fibers in the Ground. ๐Ÿ˜Ž with a 2ms redundancy and 99.999% reliability

No, they're upgrading because the backhaul for WiMAX is identical to the backhaul for LTE. Changing out only the antenna arrays will be a challenge, but not prohibitively expensive.

Switching to LTE isn't like doing the same thing twice. It's like doing the same thing 1.5 times. Still inefficient compared to doing it right the first time, but not that bad overall.

Its not really a waste of money, LTE would be able to fit into clear/Sprint wimax because of the size of the spectrum. The spectrum that they purchased is large enough to transition from Wimax to LTE

Sprint also recently announced that the towers it is replacing are going to be multi-mode towers capable of supporting whatever technology is necessary by paying the licensing fees and installing software.

The currently 4g phones they offer shouldn't suffer as the network continues its "growing pains" and adopts another new technology.

Didnt i say from jump start that "WiMax" wasnt the answer? People Jumped onto the "4G" gimmic like theres no tommorrow. (Including me) But T-mobiles HSPA+ network acually destroys "4g". Clear came across something pretty important and they are gonna ride that bad boy to the ground.

lemme know when T -Mobile gets coverage outside of downtown anything with that HSPA+. its fast, no doubt. But at the same time, you have to respect clear/Sprint's ambitious rollout of their "4G" network. which really should be 3.5G at this point considering the speed we have. (Portland, OR) Either way, it really isnt that big of a deal right now as to which technology is used by who. they are very similar, and compatible in most cases unlike our 3G technologies. (CDMA/GSM) I just hope that the big 4, and now some of the other smaller carriers, can work together to get those speeds in my house, school, work etc. labs are one thing with 1 device on a given network, hundreds of thousand is something completly different. and to be honest, i live...

I don't think they will completely drop wimax. Sprint has already stated they believe lte and wimax both provide benefits and coexist. Sprint/Clear has also stated they will release both and they have the Spectrum to do it.

Here another reason why I think clear is not going to drop wimax. Aside from all the Epic's and Evo they just sold that use Wimax. They now have roaming partners
