Simultaneous Talking and Surfing Being Prepped by Verizon
This Article Shouldn't Be Here Today.
Sprint put up a courageous fight along with Qualcomm in 2004 to prove to the world that EV-DV was a better option over EV-DO to compliment CDMA in offering faster downloads, Video Conferencing and simultaneous Voice and Data transmissions and Etc. Verizon then announced that they would roll out EV-DO to compete against the older dominant GSM. Qualcomm decides to bury the EV-DV initiative soon after Sprint elected to not fall behind and offer EV-DO to stay viable.

Cheers to a very fitting post. Sprint is responsible for so much progression in the wireless industry as you pointed out, and then some. I personally credit Sprint with reducing pricing industry-wide. They were the first to offer an 'all-you-can-eat' package with Simply Everything at such a reasonable rate. This is exactly my point and couldn't agree with you more.
When Verizon decided to go EV-DO, everyone thought they were right. Who other than Sprint and Qualcomm thought that the EV-DV technical advancement would be a subject of useful option today?
I don't think the subscribers of Verizon have been hurt by not having this availability, but in the end, this story should never had to emerge 5 years after a crucial folcrum point for the futur...
