Samsung and Microsoft announce licensing agreement to bring Windows Phone 7 Devices to the UK in 2010
London, UK September 30, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in mobile technology, today announced an agreement to use the Windows Phone 7 platform and related application software as a key component of the Samsung smartphone portfolio.
The announcement marks Samsung’s long term commitment to including Windows Phone 7 devices in its smartphone portfolio. Samsung plans to launch several Windows Phone 7 devices this year in Europe, the US, and Asia.

cool. how different is it to the wp6.5 that's on the G2 from t-mobile now? i never had any good luck with the WP stuff. i had a Mogul with sprint that was window's based and i hated it.

The G2 is not a Windows Mobile phone. It is a stock Android device.

YEAH I KNOW! it hit me after i posted. i meant the HTC HD2. again MY BAD!!
But from what I've seen from the video and pics, the Windows Phone 7 OS looks to be a lot smoother and just genuinely better overall.
I talked to a customer who works at Microsoft, and he said that the people who worked on Windows Mobile did NOT have a hand in working on WP7. They got a completely new team to develop it.
But basically it is a COMPLETE redesign of Windows Mobile and from the screenshots, it's unlike any other UI out there right now.
The media section is basically the ZuneHD UI (which is really nice) and the rest of the phone uses a new thing called MetroUI which is really slick.
The thing that remains to be seen is how they can position themselves against android and iOS. They are going for a more consumer friendly phone with WM7, so their days of trying to get business users only is behind them.
