Another Agenda For Control

Just another attempt to control peoples lives by a bunch of yahoos with an agenda. Having a conversation with someone in the passenger seat is no different than on a bluetooth. Hands free should be a law because it leaves both hands free to drive. But suggesting that a hands free conversation should be banned is simply Nazi! I'm sorry for all those who have lost friends and kin to accidents, some of which MAY have involved a driver on a cell phone. The stats listed are somewhat bogus though. It's REALLY hard to prove that a conversation caused the accident, but its convenient to use it as a cause when the driver who was on the phone happens to die in the wreck(especially when it supports an agenda). What do they do, ask them? I agree tha...

as well as children, friends, GPS, cruise control, rolled-down-windows, water bottles, non-alcoholic drinks, candy bars, trash, bags... the list can go on. I agree that this is agenda-filled government bureaucracy at it's finest.

I also agree. Where will it end? There is no hard evidence that proves that a cell phone or the use of a cell phone is the main cause of an accident it was involved in. If someone runs through an intersection and slams into your car and you were talking on the phone you would be at fault even though you had the right of way. Its like they are saying talking or texting is more dangerous than drunk driving. Its not cell phone use thats dangerous, its inattentive driving and the idiots who type out several long messages without looking at the road are the ones who cause accidents. I've sent texts while driving, but only by pecking out a few letters while not taking my eyes off the road. Granted my texts dont always make sense either but its saf...

Distracted driving is dangerous. That's well proven and just plain common sense.

Yes, a conversation with a passenger can be just as distracting and therefore just as dangerous as using a phone. However most people would object to such a law. Fewer people object to this kind of law. It's much easier to identify and regulate a distinct behavior or technology like phones.

If the driver were only putting themselves at risk, that would be one thing. A lot of people would be happy to let Darwinism do its thing. But a dangerous driver puts other peoples' lives at risk, and that's where most people appreciate the extra degree of safety that only a law like this can provide. There are a lot of irresponsible people out there, and a lot of respo...

Sounds to me like everyone is on the same page here, though it feels like Rich was just pointing out that Cell phones have become an easy target. I could also bee "reading" things wrong though.
