When a company has so many "owners" it will eventually fail because when someone like Comcast doesn't want to give any more money to expand, others will follow sooner or later.

Clear is huge with marketing, and there are quite a few stores in Vegas. They must have a good amount of customers who are paying to access WiMax. There's got to be some cash flow.

Wow, that's sad! People don't like WiMax? I had Clear, I'd take my laptop to parks! I still have my Clear usb modem. Maybe when I'm finished paying off my debt I'll get service back.

Gosh, 53 markets, some with very, very large populations, and stiill not even even a quarter million customers. I don't know what the deal is! 😕

people with agreements with current carriers on certain plans already might want this technology but will wait because they have paid for a piece of equipment / agreement.

a lot of times i want something and will finish out my contract to avoid more fee's

releasing a piece of technology at the right time is key to attracting a huge customer base

Sometimes I just don't get the marketing strategy from companies.

Apple marketed the crap out of the first iPhone enough to create a buzz. It attracted the attention of millions and they delivered on the hype.

Clear, in my opinion, hasn't created any attractive ads to draw the masses. I love the Evo and WiMAX, and once I show people the two in combination, they love it as much as I do.

LTE is almost identical in base operation offering really no more than WiMAX. However, Verizon is going to push the crap out of LTE.

I am huge with WiMAX but will admit, it needs more than just first to market.

One difference is that the iPhone was a piece of hardware operating on a network that was just about everywhere. 4G is not everywhere.

Verizon will market the daylights out of LTE and build a lot of anticipation. They will not have it in all markets and it won't perform up to the expectations they build so people will be disappointed.

Clear on the otherhand is trying to build in a short time what it took decades for the rest of the industry to build. There is just not enough money for the type of marketing that Verizon would do. Verizon spends more money propogandizing consumers than the rest of the industry combined.

Verizon's marketing machine has worked in brainwashing nearly 93m American's into believing it's "America's most reliable wireless network."

Well, I've been with Verizon just a tad over 6 months and neither voice or data are supioror to ATT. I've had dropped calls on Verizon, and my data drops down from 3G to 1x more on Verizon than it did on ATT from 3G to EDGE.

Just sharing my real world experiences with Verizon. I'm no cronie of a nationwide marketing campain, just an honest real world consumer.

I live in Las Vegas, and it seems like ALL 4 national carriers here have a lot of customers, not any 1 company dominates here. It also seems like both Cricket & MetroPCS have a lot of customers here also.

Strategic marketing helps build clientele. A company should always play it up larger than it is. Verizon was not always the largest carrier. However, they marketed to the masses as though they were. You can have the best product in the world. if you don't market the product, the game is over.

Clear needs to present itself as being the largest 4G network in the country with the largest customer base of 4G. It doesn't matter if it does not have a full national footprint. It is what it is.They need to really grab the attention of the public so when it does arrive in those markets, consumers will have some idea and anticipation for Clear.

Example: Where I live, there is no Sonic Restaurant to be found anywhere near me. Yet I see commercial...

I agree that Clear should market more but their choice is literally between network buildout and marketing. If Verizon were faced with the same choice they would choose marketing.
Verizon will suffer some tarnishing of their brand when people want the product and can't get it. For people who want a product, buildout never happens soon enough. If there is an alternative they will go with it. This is why it is wiser to build the network rather than market if you are faced with the either or choice.
Let Verizon build the want for 4G and not deliver so Clear can deliver in those markets.

Yes, Clear does have some cash flow, however there are other expenses as well. It's very expensive to start a new operation from scratch, and business generally require, proportionally, more capital investment in their beginning times than in standard operating times. That is part of the reason so many businesses, as capital investment is not properly structured for long term success.

Plus, don't forget about other expenses that Clear has. Employee salaries, marketing costs, legal costs, interchange fees, rent for towers, and more, all that add to the expenses of the operations.

There's rumors of Clear investing in LTE as well, and if T-Mobile and Clear formed a partnership to deploy an LTE network, that would seem very realistic....

I'm not geek enough to explain this but I've read that WiMax & LTE aren't that different technologies, and that it isn't that complicated to change over.

Tmobile wants their spectrum but i seriuosly doubt they are willing to do any other type of agreement. Clear should just keep enough spectrum to fulfill their Wimax buildout and sell the rest. If they have a large spectrum portfolio as they claim then they can easily make a couple billion easy from Tmobile and that should bank roll their operations for a while.

Spectrum is a sweet commodity. Why hand off an asset for short term gain?

I say partner up and become a third power in the wireless industry. Better for investors. Better for business. Better for consumers.

You would make a duopoly a triopoly. Verizon and AT&T don't have any ideas they just imitate other carriers and use their marketing clout to plagiarize others' work.

As long as I can keep my Sprint Plan there 69.99 Everything Data plan trumps Tmobiles plans & they used to be the value leader & esp with my employee discount of 20 percent best deal going of the contract players 😁 & better coverage then Tmobile there coverage is still really choppy to me moreso then Sprint.

I understand where you are coming from but they make it seem like Clear is about to run out of cash to expand. If they want to expand, then desperate times call for desperate measures. I say keep what you need and sell the excess and in the future look to the next spectrum auction to purchase more spectrum if they are in a position to buy.

Keep the spectrum and allow T-Mobile to use it as an MVNO for long term cash flow. For immediate cash for expansion tap one of the other partners like Intel or Google. Throw them a bone to make it worth their while.
